Instead of writing my general impression of this week's episode, I think I'll say a little bit about the end and a certain character. SPOILERS FOR EPISODE 12 OF R2

Shirley was one of the first reasons I was drawn into watching Code Geass. I had been following the show since the first magazine spreads came out since I love all of Taniguchi's works. Also, I had been impressed with Ookouchi's scriptwriting on episodes of shows like Eureka Seven (he wrote the script for a few episodes including the absolutely amazing ep. 26). The premise of the show really intrigued me, but I was sort of drawn in by Shirley's happy expression on one of the original spreads. Characters are the lifeblood of a series, after all.

As the ray of sunshine of Geass who embodied the good side of the Britannian people, Shirley was the life Lelouch may have had if he hadn't been the Black Prince, so cruelly cursed by fate. She symbolized Lelouch's innocence the same way Euphie had for Suzaku.

It's strange how I've gotten so attached to every character in a way I never have before in terms of a fictional series (barring Harry Potter). And she will be dearly missed.

On another note, I'm positive it was Rolo since the way in which she was killed is the same as some of his victims shown in ep. 4. However, like Shirley, I love him as well. I can't condemn him. Honestly, the boy was like a bomb, waiting to explode. It was inevitable he would take a drastic turn in regard to Nunnally, but I didn't Shirley would unwittingly light the fuse.

Rolo doesn't know how to deal with his brotherly feelings for Lelouch and is now belatedly sorting them out in the worst possible way. He didn't have a proper childhood so he never, before this point, experienced childish selfishness, just the lack thereof. He's going through this feeling of possessiveness that's been put aside for so long, he doesn't know how to deal with it. He can't really recognize the evil of his actions, but he is he truly evil himself? Of course not. After all, both Shirley and Rolo's actions are propelled by a desire to be loved.

With that said, I'm going to swear off spoilers >_>

The OP both gets me pumped, but also reminds me that the end is coming soon ;_; The one shot in the opening where the spaceship fired off the missiles reminded me of a similar scene from OP4 of Eureka Seven though.

geass, spoilers, ramblings
