Does that mean that the ED images aren't just CLAMP being CLAMP and that we can actually try to *gasp* interpret some meaning behind that mass of wings and chains?

Late reply, but, from what I could gather, Taniguchi advised them not only the style, but the substance (i.e. what characters to draw). The concept was all CLAMP's. Take that as thou wilst.
