Flashing 12:
A “Flashing 12” is a person with no technical inclinations - the name comes from the fact that when you walk into their house their VCR is Flashing 12:00, because they cannot figure out how to program it.

What about people like me who never inherited the remote with the VCR and as near as I can tell there IS no way to set the time without it?

We've been calling those people 12 o'clock flashers - it has a vaguely perverted ring to it that way ;)

I am a 12 o'clock flasher not because I don't know how but because in the room with my DVD (and VCR) there is a clock visible on my: stove, microwave, coffeemaker, DVD, VCR, stereo and one digital clock that displays in binary. If we have a power outage, I'm likely to reset the microwave clock and let the rest flash. Honestly, how many clocks does a person need at one time anyway?

Then it will bug Iagoe until he finally goes around and fixes them. Usually just in time for another power blip.

Life's too short. Let 'em flash, says I.
