"Good evening. Thank you very much for meeting me out here. I... wanted to speak with you, but I don't trust the CATs at all."
Returning to sitting on the blanket, she gestured at the items she'd brought. "I don't think that the deputies will trouble us since we're on their list, but I brought all this just in case." Taking the lacquered bento box she opened it before them. "May I offer you some sushi?"

"It's my pleasure." She couldn't help asking with a shy smile, "is Japan of the future worth visiting, even when you have your own asteroid out by the distant star of Vega?"
(Hah, a star had actually come up in conversation. So it was only 99% pretense.)

With some difficulty she drew her mind away from the pleasant imaginings of a Japan of the future. After all, the phone was still persistently ringing.
She delicately picked up a sushi piece for herself, then asked, "Mister Braxiatel, may I assume that you also received a strange message at the end of the Mayor's address, and that a phone started incessantly ringing shortly thereafter?"

"That is part of why I arranged all this pretense. The message after the Mayor said to not get caught. The box said to open it it in the washroom, which is one place that we conceivably would not be observed." She shook her head.
"I was nervous about wearing the glasses outside, after all that caution about where to open the package, but I did try them out a bit. They seem like normal sunglasses to me. They didn't reveal any truths, that I could tell."

How impressive! And oh, but did she ever love technology too! Shifting from surprise to excitement she nodded at his invitation and jumped to her feet.
"You're right." Pulling out her glasses she put them on over hers. A bit awkward, but it worked. She looked around in interest - for wearing sunglasses at night, her vision was quite clear.
"Ah... I don't mean to doubt you, but you're quite sure we're hidden? I can still see you."
