OVERALL:

Looking back, did you write more fic than you thought you would this year, less, or about what you'd predicted?
way more than i expected!! in fact, i never actually expected to write anything at all because i haven't written in close to two years. so, yeah, this is a pleasant surprise.

What pairing/genre/fandom did you write that you would never have predicted in January?
i guess a pairing i never expected to like as much as i did was sejeong/somi (who've taken up most of my ao3 lmao) and i never really thought i'd get into ioi or produce 101. another pairing i never really expected to write for was frank/karen and just daredevil in general.

Did you take any writing risks this year?
i think a lot of my fics in 2016 were just me testing the waters, but maybe the biggest risk i took was when i wrote where the sun always shines because idk if anyone else in the fandom has done it and the whole thing was just one massive project. either way, it was a risk worth taking.

Do you have any fanfic or profic goals for the New Year?
i hope i can keep it up, though with uni getting more and more hectic idk if i can churn out the same amount of fics. maybe focus more on quality over quantity too, polish my writing even more.

What were last year's goals?
there weren't any goals lmao. like i said, i never expected to get back into writing in 2016 and, well, at all.

BEST AND WORST:

My best story of this year:
personally i think it would have to be where the sun always shines.

My most popular story of this year:
in terms of kudos, it's that's not a skirt, girl, that's a sawn-off shotgun. but i guess if it's...in terms of word of mouth (??) i'd also include name a game to play, i'll roll the dice and you're knocking at my heart.

Story of mine most under-appreciated by the universe, in my opinion:
i guess it would have to be nosedive in the floodlines, and maybe lost and found too.

Most fun story to write:
you're knocking at my heart!! it was the most light-hearted fic i've had to date, and it was nice being to sort of relive the fun times i had in high school through the fic.

Story that shifted my own perceptions of the characters:
i don't think i've made a fic that's really shifted my perceptions on anyone in particular, so i'll have to give this one a pass.

Hardest story to write:
where the sun always shines, because if the month i put into that is not telling enough then idk what is.

Biggest disappointment:
i deleted it a month ago, but it would have to be the mina/momo fic i published. it was my first twice fic and my comeback to fic writing but it's also my biggest disappointment. it really just wasn't up to par with any of my later works and with my personal standards.

Biggest surprise:
honestly it would have to be a flood of blood to the heart! i didn't expect people to respond so well to it the way they did, but i'm glad they liked it. it's not a personal favorite and looking back, it really wasn't my best either, but i'm still fond of it all the same.

Most unintentionally telling story:
where the sun always shines, always always always. this was a personal reflection of mine in fic form and it got me through a really tough time last year when i was just at a really bad place emotionally. i put a lot of myself into the fic, especially through sejeong.

HIGHLIGHTS + WRAP-UP

Favorite opening lines:

the north sea sing--
Mingyu is the boy next door.

you're knocking at my heart--
"Alright, folks," Minkyung announces. She places her hands on her hips to try and look as authoritative as possible. She lets out a breath and says, "Operation 'Get Kyungwon to Go Out With Me' is now in full swing."

nosedive in the floodlines--
Bora says, "Let's break up." Easy, quick, as painless as possible.

the oreo personality test--
This is how Nayeon eats her Oreos:

Favorite closing lines:

got you under my skin (got you deep in the heart of me)--
Nayoung looks out the window for a moment, tapping her fingers against the table. She turns her head back to the waitress and says, “I think I’d like to try something different today.”

name a game to play, i'll roll the dice--
They're perfect.

i fear no monsters, for no monsters i see--
Karen is afraid of a number of things, but she isn’t afraid of Frank.

you're knocking at my heart--
Minkyung smiles crookedly, barely able to contain her joy, and says, “Okay, maybe it went a little better than ‘alright’.”

where the sun always shines--
I’ll be home soon.

lost and found--
Don’t worry: this story has a happy ending.

IN CONCLUSION: 2016 in fic went far better than 2016 irl, so there's that. no but really, i didn't think i would ever get back into writing but i'm extremely happy i did. it got me through a lot of things and problems and i'm happy as well that i've grown more comfortable in publishing my works as well as more confident in my writing style. i walked back into writing feeling very rusty and my very first fic showed just that, but i got my groove back eventually and even managed to outdo myself. :D
