Dice on the Table: Into the Brown

Not a strong script, not a lot different in the setup, I did try to add some variance with the shots, having the camera on one character while another was talking.  I attempted to help distinguish who was talking by having the shot start on that character before switching and then moving the stereo balance to one side or the other to give a clue as ( Read more... )

I like it! I can only encourage you to keep it up, the more you do the better your workflow will get and the easier they will be to make.

I have another one already filmed and in the editing process. It will be slightly more complex with changing angles.

Also trying to write a horror script for Halloween. Not sure if I should do Cthulhu or something else.

This is really good. I like the passage of time using the Firefly pic. The quality is improving noticeably.

I have a suggestion. Have you thought of trying a superimposed shot (is that what it's called?) from behind or over the shoulder of one character while looking at the other? That could be cool.

That would be cool and how it is normally done when you have two actors. REALLY hard to do with one person. Consider each composite shot takes a long time and has a high chance of goofing up and having to be redone over and over. I have to accept the limitations of my setup.

I will attempt it once I have a script that really needs that extra complexity. And I get a stunt dummy to help line up the shot.

I like how you're getting into subject matter with broader geek/gamer appeal. One thing about the original TORG one was that, as much as I thought it was funny, it was kind of an in joke, even for TORG players. Any gamer or Firefly fan could potentially enjoy this one.

Not saying you should dumb it down or cater to everyone, but there's a happy medium for wider appeal while still focusing on the gaming community. That's probably why so many gamer comics and videos seem to be D&D-oriented.

It will sway back and forth. The next one is really D&D specific. Then I'm doing a few on horror RPGs - pushing home an idea I've had for awhile... Obfuscated Call of Cthulhu. I think only a handful of people will really get it, but I think it is a great idea. I'd love to do something like this at a gaming con but I'm not sure how. So, the nest best thing is to make a movie about it.

Yeah, switching back and forth sounds like a good plan. As the guys from MST3K said "We don't think 'Who will get this?'. We think 'They RIGHT people will get this'". There's gotta be a balance, though, at least if you want to attract attention ventually.

Essentially unless I'm at a point where I'm getting 1,000 of views a week, I won't be having script meetings with people to test out the jokes.

If I find it funny, it flies.
