Dice on the Table: Stone Cold

This episode presented some unique challenges. First, it was the first time I shot someone else's script. This created a weird pressure because I didn't want any of my technical inexperience to make it less than it could be. Second, this was the first episode that got into game mechanics and made me realize something - game mechanics are boring ( Read more... )

I'm now a published screenwriter, or something. Man, I have no understanding of the 4th ed game mechanics at all.

Cool.

Oh, BTW, you missed the 2nd l in my name... ;)

I can't for the life of me imagine who that script was about :)

4th ed does a lot of movement stuff and saving throws are simplified. I hope you don't mind the liberties I took with the script and sorry about the name - I didn't even realize.

I'm rerendering the video to add in a missing scene and correct the credits.

The phone call worked really well. It's always weird with any kind of FX - it doesn't have to be natural, it has to "feel" natural, and that felt natural.

I liked the split-screen in this one, too - it didn't look gimmicky. There was one minor timing issue, with the overlapping dialog, but that was no biggie.

This split screen had some problems but I won't point them out because once you know what they are, they are glaring.

Now that I know they exist, it's ruined for me. Ruined! I think just something about the 2-person shot felt more natural. It didn't seem forced, but the effect was still there in a subtle way.

It just seemed like one character was interrupting the other, which worked for me.

So, I actually made a "fan edit" of this video. If you're interested in seeing it. If you're not, my feelings won't be hurt.

I've got mixed feelings at this point. If it is a significant improvement, then I'll like I suck but I would like to see other interpretations.

Yeah, if it runs the risk of hurting your feelings or quashing future creativity, I'd just as soon not.

I think the key will be to hold off showing it to me until after I finish the Halloween episodes and then I'll feel more secure having generated a significant amount of content and truly knowing how much work I did put into it.

It's made me want to try to create my own episode as an homage.

I think the more the merrier.
