LUMOS SORTING APPLICATION
Name: Rebekah Laurine
Age (13 or up; we stick to LJ rules): I am 19 years old as of early May. And reflecting back on my answers, I probably sound really childish.. Er.. I don't mean to! That's just me being witty? Funny? Cute? Super awesome like woah? Probably none of those things to anyone but me. =P
Location: Capital of Michigan. I'll give a virtual cookie to whomever knows what it is.. If you say Detroit I might have to go crazy.. finally.
Where did you hear about this community? (Please tell us which lj user recommended you for he/she shall be given a point.)
Well, this is kind of roundabout. I was bored, seeing as how it is 11:40 at night while writing this, and I did a community interest search for Harry Potter, so then I came across
azkaban.. and there there was a post advertising this community from
_youngpilgrim.
How much time are you willing to invest in this community? Will you think less of me if I tell you that I can devote an enormous amount of time? Heh, well, the thing of it is, is this summer I seem to have acquired a certain joblessness about me. Alas and alack for that, but I'll be okay, I've immersed myself into making layouts and icons. But, I ramble from the point I was trying to make which is that I have plenty of time to invest in the community. I even will when the school year rolls around because frankly, college is not that time consuming...
PART 1 - Canon
1. Have you read all the books? Well not yet! There's a new one coming out in a couple days!!! Yay!! But, er, yes, I have read the first five books. =)
2. Give us your personal interpretation of each Hogwarts house (in terms of atmosphere, mentality, intra-house relationships et cetera - these are just a few examples).
I've never actually gone about trying to define the Houses, so please forgive me if I've messed something up!
Gryffindor - Oh, ye brave ones. I think the atmosphere of Gryffindor Tower has got to be relatively chummy and happy, if the books are any clue at all. The Gryffindors really seem to stick together. I really really want to say more about them, and I should be able to since we know the most about them from Harry, Ron and Hermione. But what else can I say? They are a brave lot and persevere through what comes at them.. (Professor Snape anyone? Hehe.)
Ravenclaw - Honestly, I think I relate Ravenclaws to my group of friends from High School. Just so intelligent, taking all the honors classes and helping each other out. They are serious about their school work, but I'm sure they know how to have fun. And the jokes they tell have got to be of those intellectual kinds that just go over most peoples heads. =P The Ravenclaws are probably a pretty supportive group, helping each other to strive and be the best they can at their schoolwork.
Slytherin - Like the sorting hat says, Slytherins strive for greatness. I feel that the Slytherins should have a deep and overpowering sense of self that might make the atmosphere in Slytherin House a little tense. However, that's probably not the case. But, you know, and it's likely that I take this from fanfiction which I'm probably addicted to, I think that within their own House away from others they should have some sense of belonging and safety. But I'm probably off my rocker. =P
Hufflepuff - Hufflepuffs have to be the nicest people ever. I mean, they are loyal to one another and stick together. They really have too, 'cause you know.. they're Hufflepuffs! Hehe, I'm not being mean, I just get the vibe that the rest of the school kind of looks down on the Hufflepuffs (Though, that could be the fanfiction again..). Hufflepuff house must be a very supporting one where you can feel safe and secure in knowing that you have friends who will look out for you when you need them.
3. What would be your favourite flavour of Bertie Bott’s Every Flavour Beans and why (note: as the name implies, all possible flavours exist)?
Chocolate. I know it's simple, and probably everyone says it, but I am addicted to chocolate. I cannot help it. I just love it. Today, my mom finally got some chocolate while she was grocery shopping. I was unpleasantly surprised to find it had raisins in it. X.x;; Aiya! Kill me now. I loooooooooooooooooove simple (good) chocolate.
4. If you were on your House’s Quidditch Team, which position would you preferably play and why?
I don't play sports... Is that a problem? Though, if I were to pick a position I would choose Seeker. Personally I just do not do well with contact sports. You know, back in middle school when your gym (excuse me "Physical Education" or is it "Movement Science" now?) teacher made you all play basketball and flag football and the like. I don't like balls being thrown at me. I have horrible hand eye reflexes. Which probably makes me a pretty pathetic seeker... but I just feel I would do better on the outskirts of the game simply looking for the snitch.
5. (Optional) What HP conspiracy theory do you hold true unless it is textually proven otherwise? (i.e. Snape is a vampire, Ron is Dumbledore, etc. -there are loads of these theories. Feel free to contribute your own)?
You know, I'm going to answer the other question in more detail, but I just wanted to say that I read that one theory about Ron being Dumbledore, and even if it isn't true, it is one nifty theory!! Let me tell ya! I was so hooked into believing it by the time I got done reading the theory. I was mystified.
6. (Optional. If you can't answer #5, make sure you answer this one.) What is your favorite book aside from HP and why?
Book or series? If I can say series I will of course pick the Wheel of Time by Robert Jordan. It's suuuuuuuuuuuuuch a fantastic series. It's much more adult than Harry Potter aand so detialed, I just love it. I just loved WoT before HP so I'm inclined to be really loyal to it. Coincidentally it is also a fantasy series, because basically that's almost all that I read. I just love to immerse myself into other worlds, and Robert Jordan creates this whole new amazing world with such an immense history to it you just become overwhelmed with all the details. It's so astounding. I definately recommend it if you want to read a unfinished series now with the 12th(?) book coming out and all have an average of 700+ pages.
7. What would your Room of Requirement look like?
Apart from it looking exactly like Hagrids Hut? Well, you'd probably find yourself within the confines of a castle. I just love all things to do with medieval history. I don't think I could have lived it, being a girl and all, it probably got uncomfortable at times... O.o;; Hooooooowever! I'm just so fascinated with the time period and the concept of chivalry (A dying art, to be sure =P). I love the clothing as well, I go to lots of Renaissance Faires and dress up! It's so much fun. I think the room would probably be a bedroom in the castle with the fur rug on the floor and fire in the fireplace and brick upon brick of pure yummy chocolate!! Hehe. Well, I don't know how realistic the description is, but I just think some sort of medieval setting would appear and it would be fantastic. I would be dressed in gown with flowing sleeves and I'd have a little collection of books to read and it would be fabulous.
8. Describe your wand and tell us why you picked that design.
Well, I've never really thought too much about this but I think I'll go with Willow 9 inches with a unicorn hair core. I'm a rather short person so I like to think my wand will probably match up wtih that =) I picked unicorn hair because they are such a pure and gentle creature and I really think that matches me. Also very innocent. x.X; I'm so naive sometimes it's painful =P And willow.. well.. I picked willow because that was the first wood that came to mind. Hehe.

What's Your Personality Type? 10. Who is your role model and why?
I know it probably sounds foolish and not well thought out but I'm pretty sure my role model is my mother. I love her dearly, she just does so much for me and my family that it's insane. I have no idea how she does it all. Being the youngest I feel I probably got a little spoiled, so I'm kind of lazy when it comes to cleaning up after myself and the rest of the house. My mother has to put up with me, my older brother and my father! We're all just a little bit lazy. Hehe. No one should have to clean up after four people without any help at all. Yet, my mother does it, not that she doesn't complain to me... Sometimes I help, but I'm pretty useless. I scorn all things dirty, I just don't like to touch them.. especially dirty dishes. Ugh. But my mother does the dishes, she cooks for us, and she cleans the house to make it somewhat presentable to the rest of the world. And she does this while she's hurting on the inside. I really won't go into it, but my brother is going through a divorce and she really misses her grandson. His mother is being a right witch! I try and keep her happy, but I just don't know if I would be able to face the day if I was here. She just has so much to go through. She's an amazing person, and I'd be thrilled if I turn out to be half as good a mother as she is. I know people like to say that certain celebrities are their role models but I just don't know how that can be. You don't know what they're really like, you see a persona. I know who my mother is and I love her with all of my being. I really look up to her, even if I don't necessarily show it.
11. What would you like to have accomplished at the end of your life?
I really just want simple things with my life. I want to have created a beautiful caring family. I want that to be what I pass on to the world. I want my kids to have grown up in a loving support environment and know they don't have to turn to such devices as drugs and alcohol. I don't need to leave my mark on the world. I just want to be remembered by my family.
12. Would you sooner commit a crime against your kin or your countrymen?
I'd rather not commit a crime at all. Though, if I had to choose I would pick countryment. I could not in all honestly bring myself to lift a hand against anyone I personally knew. My family means so much to me and I don't think I could bring myself to betray them like that.
13. What would your animagus be and why?
It would have to be a cat. Words cannot express how much in love I am with all things feline. Reference: My layout. I have a layout up of my precious kitty. I love her so dearly. We had cats when I was little, and being young, I really didn't know how to handle them properly, so I'm sure my cats hated me then =P But I do remember that I just loved them dearly. I have this one picture of me when I'm a little girl holding onto a kitty, and I have the biggest grin on my face. I love that picture because it defines a lot of who I am. When our cats died and I was still young my mom wouldn't let us get a new one for a long time. Finally, when I was a Sophomore in High School, mother broke down and my sister and I each got a cat. Before then I would watch commercials or the like on tv with cats and my heart would just burst every time I saw a kitty. I just love them! They're so cute and precious, even if my kitty does nothing but glare at me =P Hehe, she does... but she loves me too.
14. What would your patronus be and why?
Well, I guess JK has announced that the animagus and patronus would be the same so I suppose it would be a cat. However, if I wanted something to protect me I would go for a Panther. It's a feline, that counts, right!? Panthers are just so beautiful, sleek and powerful.
15. What career would you consider if you were indeed part of the wizarding world and why?
Oh, golly gee. I don't suppose wizards have any use for a computer programmer.. =P Now, there has to be a use for someone of certain Mathematical expertise. I know they have a class, Arithmancy.. goodness knows what it really is since Hermione's the only one who attends! (Of the Trio that is..). I am a devoted fan of all things Calculus.. so I might suit well to being an Arithmancer! (I just looked that up at the Lexicon =P) But, I don't really know if that's a job.. So, erm... maybe something with the Ministry of Magic?
