(First and foremost, I would like to say that I appreciate all of the work gone into this community. It's rare that you'll see such a thorough... sort of info page. Anyway. That's coming from the web-designer bit of me, so I'll shut up now.)
LUMOS SORTING APPLICATION
Name: Aaden.
Age (13 or up; we stick to LJ rules): fifteen.
Location: Montreal.
Where did you hear about this community? (Please tell us which
lj user recommended you for he/she shall be given a point.) Actually, I was searching for HP sorting communities and found this one. :D
How much time are you willing to invest in this community? As much time as is needed, really. I'm not going to try and completely take over or anything, but if you guys need some graphics assistance at some point in the future, I could help with that. Of course, if I'm stamped, I'll vote on the other applicants.
PART 1 - Canon
1. Have you read all the books? Yes, I have.
2. Give us your personal interpretation of each Hogwarts house (in
terms of atmosphere, mentality, intra-house relationships et cetera -
these are just a few examples). Ooh, this should be fun. All right, here we go:
Hufflepuff: Hufflepuffs are typically excluded, I find. This house is not as popular as all of the other houses (not as 'flashy' or inviting, I guess), but that doesn't mean that it's a lousy house. Students in this house are hard-working and honest people who put forth a full effort into everything that they do. A good word is diligent, if I even spelled that correctly. They strike me as very concerned, easygoing, and helpful people. Just because they're often in the shadows doesn't mean they've got no heroes, and no potential for greatness: after all, look at Cedric Diggory, and how he got chosen to be the Hogwarts Champ in GoF.
Ravenclaw: I'm just kinda going off of my fanfiction-writer's instinct here: Ravenclaws strike me as being very perfectionistic. They're known to be incredibly intelligent and witty, and excel in school. A lot of people might describe them as pompous, and that's where I get 'perfectionistic'. I don't like to generalise things, but Ravenclaws give me the impression that they are very selective with who they include in their activities, just because of their perfectionistic and intellectual nature.
Slytherin: I'm sure that not all Slytherins are purebloods, but one thing that this house seems to be known for is its insistance that purebloods are the only worthwhile sorts to know. This is the general picture, though, and not all Slytherins are like this. Very ambitious, Slytherins will do whatever it takes to achieve or acquire what it is they desire. As a whole, they don't seem to take the other houses very seriously (but of course, there are exceptions). Most won't think twice about making a crude, witty quip about someone they don't like. They don't strike me as caring what people think of them.
Gryffindor: The students sorted into this house are often described as loyal and brave. Courage is not acting without fear, it is acting in spite of fear: so I guess we could say that the Gryffindor students tend to be more willing to stand up for what they believe in, themselves, and positive change. There is often an inability to see the other bits of an issue, though, so sometimes Gryffindors can be... I don't know. A bit hard-headed, I suppose.
3. What would be your favourite flavour of Bertie Bott’s Every
Flavour Beans and why (note: as the name implies, all possible flavours
exist)? Green apple or cherry. Those are my two favourite jelly bean flavours, and I tend to like those two when they are made into any brand of sweet or candy. I like to stick to what I know will be satisfying when it comes to food, so when I go to restaurants I always order the exact same thing rather than take a chance with something I wouldn't like.
4. If you were on your House’s Quidditch Team, which position would
you preferably play and why? I probably wouldn't be on the Quidditch team to begin with; I'm not the most athletic of people, anymore. I'd probably be the one mending and re-stitching uniforms when they became ripped, because I'm really into clothing construction and design, but anyway, to the question. I'd probably be the Seeker, which is such a cliche answer, but oh well. Uhm... let's see. Why? Because I like going fast, and I'm good at (I think so, anyway) keeping my eye on the ball both figuratively and literally. It's probably the only position I'd be able to execute with any skill, because I'm not coordinated enough to be Keeper, Chaser, or Beater. (Not like being a Seeker doesn't take coordination, though, it does: just a different kind.)
5. (Optional) What HP conspiracy theory do you hold true unless it
is textually proven otherwise? (i.e. Snape is a vampire, Ron is
Dumbledore, etc. -there are loads of these theories. Feel free to contribute
your own)?
6. (Optional. If you can't answer #5, make sure you answer this
one.) What is your favorite book aside from HP and why? Ooh, I can do this question! My favourite book is called House of Leaves. It's the best book. Honestly. It's about 600 pages long, but on some pages there are no words, or if there are any words, they are upside down or something. Every time 'house' appears in the text, it is in blue. It's like a contemporary art museum, but a book. At times you think it really makes no sense. They measure their house, right, the characters, and the inside wall measurement is larger than the outside wall measurement, and you're like, how can that make sense? They go on a quest inside this constantly expanding hallway (and then room, and then giant huge basement) and it's just absolutely awesome. I love the craziness of it. I love how it just challenges all of our expectations about how and what books should be. And, if you read it through, you emerge thoroughly enlightened.
7. What would your Room of Requirement look like? Apart from it looking exactly like Hagrid's Hut… It would change so often it wouldn't really have a set form, I don't think. But if it had to, it would be a giant bedroom, I guess, with portions all for my different artistic inclinations. A painting studio, a laptop to write on, some nice expensive cameras. Just a nice place to relax, somewhere that I can go to get away from it all and not worry about other people bothering me. I admit it, I'm a bit of a solitary person. I'd also like a door outside, into a nice glen or something. A nice bit of greenery with lots of flowers. I'm a person who does love nature.
8. Describe your wand and tell us why you picked that design. I really do agree with this wand test that I took once... it said that my wand would be willow with a core of unicorn hair. It would be short, too, just because I think that would be more handy and practical (a 12-inch long stick of wood wouldn't exactly be fun to lug around!). Willow is a very sensitive sort of tree, and it's associated with divination and the other world, being aware of what is around you. The unseen. The Mysteries. What's behind the veil, I guess, no? For a bit of completely unrelated information, I'm very much into divination and I collect tarot cards. I'm pretty skilled at those arts, if you choose to believe in them. I'm pretty sensitive to what's not there, what's not been said. Unicorn hair because it just feels right - it strikes me as queenly and regal.

10. Who do you admire most and why? Hm... I think it's hard to just answer that with one person. I admire so many different people for different reasons. Right now, though, I think I'll have to answer this with my father. He's an incredibly intelligent person, very book-smart. I admire him for being able to deal with the hard lot he was given, I suppose (though it is admittedly not as bad as those poor starving people in Africa, but I digress). His father never spent time with him (literally), he had a hard time growing up because of his father's constant affairs. Eventually my dad married a woman who would both scream at him and at his children. I admire him, I suppose, for being able to help me when I needed it most. For the longest while, and this isn't a pity tale or anything, for the record... I lived with my mum, and she would always insult me and it was your general child abuse case. I got sent to the hospital once. The only reason custody didn't get taken away was because my mother was good at smoothtalking the doctors. But anyway, through all of that, my father was always there for me to call or email or whatever, and he would listen intently to every word I had to say. He's the only person I've ever been able to count on 100% of the time, really, and I really respect him for that steadfastness and loyalty. He knows everything about everything, and that's not much of an exaggeration. I wish I knew what he knew about the world and how to deal with people. Despite all of the financial problems he's had in the past thanks to my mother, he's somehow managed to emerge on top of the situation, in control and content with himself. He's a really, really good father, and that's something that I appreciate and value and am thankful for more than anything else.
11. What would you like to have accomplished at the end of your
life? Ooh. Well, I want the novel I wrote last year published. I would really, really love to be a novelist. I adore creating stories. I have so many ideas that I would just like to write out into books or whatever, and it would be really great to have it sold in bookstores. Not for the fame or anything, but just as a mark of accomplishment. I also want my artwork in galleries, I think that would be really awesome. I just want to live up to my full potential, and do what it is I am capable of doing. Sometime I'd like to be a fashion model, as well as have my own clothing line.
12. Would you sooner commit a crime against your kin or your
countrymen? That's a really hard question for me to answer. I'm not close to most of my family - I only can say that I'm close with about three of them (brother, father, uncle), and have absolutely no inclination to go out of my way for the others. I have no real allegience to people in general, though, so I'm not really sure. I think it would really, really depend on the situation and who was involved, and who in my family I would be committing (two t's? Or one?) this crime against.
13. What would your animagus be and why? Ooh, hard question. A ferret, I think, strangely enough. These creatures strike me as furtive, and they can weasel their way out of many a situation. They're hard to get your hands on, really - they can escape your grasp with ease. I think that's an important animagus quality. It'd be utter crap to just be... captured as an animagus with no escape. Ferrets don't strike me as creatures that can't fend for themselves.
14. What would your patronus be and why? I've actually thought about this one before. I would have to say an octopus. They are my favourite animal, hah, and they act very much like I do. They can change their shape whenever they want, since they are invertibrates, and they can change their colour. I show a different part of myself to everyone, really. It's very rare that I will feel comfortable enough with a person to show them all of me. I'm always changing! The octopus strikes me as a very agile and difficult creature to get to know - and if you come too close, they'll pop ink out at you! Very much like myself. I have got some problems with trusting people. I always end up giving people the benefit of the doubt, and get let down. No fun!
15. What career would you consider if you were indeed part of the
wizarding world and why? Hmm. I'd probably be a diviner or something, you know? Like a fortune teller. I already have that skill, and I think it would be a lot of fun! I might run a greenhouse for magical plants or something, harvest them for the distributors. I like working with flora. What else... I could paint magical portraits! But probably not, actually, since I'm lousy with realism. Oh well. ^^ One of the above, hey?
By the way, I'd like to thank you guys for taking the time to read this and assess me. I do so appreciate it!
