Where did you hear about this community? (Please tell us which
lj user recommended you for he/she shall be given a point.) I'm sorry to whoever it was that I found this link through, because i would love to give you points, but I quite honestly can't remember. It was at around 1 a.m., and I was in a post-biochemistry studying haze. I was kinda surfing through different HP communities and journals and stumbled in here. Thought it sounded like fun, so I decided to try.
How much time are you willing to invest in this community? I can spend a fair amount of time on here. I don't really have much going on, and I spend entirely too much time online anyway. I love having things to check on my LJ to pass the time away.
PART 1 - Canon
1. Have you read all the books?
Yes, I have read all the books, all at least twice (or in the case of Prisoner of Azkaban, more times than I can remember). I got into the series reluctantly, coerced into reading Sorcerer's Stone back when I was 17 by my mom. She had seen Rosie O'Donnell raving about it on TV, and at the time my mom was working at a library and grabbed the first book, brought it home and immediately shoved it at me (since I'm the family bibliophile). I really didn't care to read it, I mean c'mon, children's books? But she told me to just read the first 100 pages and if I didn't like I could give it back.
That obviously didn't happen. I was hooked by the end of the first chapter, and have been hopelessly obsessed ever since. My favorite book is still, even after read The Half-Blood Prince, Azkaban (if you said "duh" you get a cookie). Primarily because it introduced those wonderful characters known as the Marauders. Not to mention the concept of the Animagus (even though we had already seen McGonagall do this in book 1). The whole "changing into animals" thing was a favorite of mine as a kid, and I loved seeing it in the books. I also thought it was interesting to see how Harry changed in this book, finding out his parents had been betrayed by a friend. It was very different from what we had seen out of him so far (but nothing compared to ALLCAPS Harry from Order of the Phoenix)
2. Give us your personal interpretation of each Hogwarts house (in
terms of atmosphere, mentality, intra-house relationships et cetera -
these are just a few examples).
Gryffindor: I have always thought of Gryffindor as brave and passionate. Bravery is almost a given, considering their mascot and the examples of previous and current students. It doesn't mean everyone in Gryffindor would be willing to go try bungee jumping with an unmeasured cord, but they have a strength of heart that defines them. I also think they are incredibly passionate. They put everything they can into their friendships, loves (whether it be human or an activity), and of course, quidditch. I also think of them as one of the more cohesive houses, all-for-one and one-for-all and whatnot.
Ravenclaw: Obviously, the house of cleverness and intelligence. Ravenclaws have a love of learning not really comparable in the other houses. But they don't just store their intelligence, they know how to use it and apply it (there's a huge difference). I see them using it though more in a situtation though, like trying to figure a puzzle of some sort. Of all the houses, I always seem to view Ravenclaw's as much more independent than students in other houses, prefering silent, solitary studying to raucous study groups. Ravenclaws seem to try and rely on their own skills and wits to get them through life.
Slytherin: Cunning is the best word I can think to describe Slytherin. Slytherin is clever, much like Ravenclaw, but I always imagine that cleverness being used in a more social than academic arena. Working with people (not necessarily through deception) much like a public relations representative or a politician. Quick on their feet and able to adapt depending on the situation and the person their talking to. Charasmatic would be another good word to get my view across, I guess. I also seem to think that Slytherins are more likely to niche-ify themselves than other houses, forming smaller groups of friends rather than being more like one big group.
Hufflepuff: Stead-fast and loyal be the Hufflepuffs. I think this is the only house to embrace one another more than Gryffindor. They are loyal to themselves and their friends and will stand beside one another through thick and thin. They work hard and to the best of their ability. They may not have the cleverness of Ravenclaw, but they do have something else that the Ravenclaw lack in: common sense. Why go through a complicated, long winded solution when there is a much simpler one that makes much more sense? This common sense can be preferred in some cases over just book smarts and cleverness.
3. What would be your favourite flavour of Bertie Bott’s Every
Flavour Beans and why (note: as the name implies, all possible flavours
exist)?
Fresh baked chocolate chip cookies would be absolutely wonderful. There's not much better than a still slightly-gooey chocolate chip cookie fresh out of the oven. Not like my cookies, which all too often end up charred to a crisp due to a cracked-out oven.
4. If you were on your House’s Quidditch Team, which position would
you preferably play and why?
Definently Chaser, I like to keep active and moving around. Not to mention the strategy involved, plotting out plays to keep the opposition off base. Having a connection with your teammates is a must, you have to know their moves and any nonverbal clues they can give you. It just always seemed the most fun, and versatile, position in quidditch to me.
5. (Optional) What HP conspiracy theory do you hold true unless it
is textually proven otherwise? (i.e. Snape is a vampire, Ron is
Dumbledore, etc. -there are loads of these theories. Feel free to contribute
your own)?
6. (Optional. If you can't answer #5, make sure you answer this
one.) What is your favorite book aside from HP and why?
Oh geez, that's a difficult question. I've got a lot of favorite series, so I'll go with one of my favorite stand-alone books. Which is The Stand by Stephen King. A classic tale of good versus evil, in a world when our own want for power through biological weapons gets the better of us. The characters are what makes this book so wonderful. Seeing how the few "chosen ones" survive as all of those around them begin to die, leaving them alone. Then all of them journeying to a place in their dreams, meeting up with other survivors along the way. The characters are so varied, from Nick the deaf/mute to Stu the good ol' boy who was the only one there when the Superflu was first beginning to spread. The heads of the two factions, the devout Mother Abigail and Evil personified Randall Flagg (/the Walking Dude/Walter O'Dim/The Man in Black etc. etc.) The other thing that makes me love this book so much, is the fact that there are connections to Stephen King's horror/fantasy series The Dark Tower, which is one of my all time favorites. Phrases referring to "The Beam", the cropping up of familiar characters, to seeing if the number 19 shows up at all. I love finding connections like that and it makes me giddy to fit those pieces together.
7. What would your Room of Requirement look like?
Apart from it looking exactly like Hagrid's Hut...because, I do about as much cleaning as Hagrid, with about the same cooking skills (see cookies reference from #3). My room of requirement would have a nice plush carpet with comfortable, well worn in couches and chairs, perfect for curling up with a good book or taking a nap. And hey, while we're at it, how about a place for my horse? Because I don't get to see her nearly enough as it is, and she is definently in need of some love. There would be plenty of bookcases with those elusive books that I can't seem to find in any bookstore or library. Also gotta have my computer or laptop there, gotta keep up to date with my friends online ;)
8. Describe your wand and tell us why you picked that design.
My wand would be Poplar at a nice 10 1/2 inches. It is one of those trees that makes me think of the fall, which is one of my favorite times of the year. Appropriately so, according to celtic lore, it is the tree of the autumnal equinox and known for time of passage and transformation. Of course, also according to celtic lore, my wood should be willow. But I can just see myself getting whipped in the eye with that thing ("Damn you swish and flick!") The core would be unicorn hair, because I do a lot of work with horses and would find that to be fitting. I think the unicorn is one of those symbols, much like the dragon, which is immediately associated with magic and its purity.

What's Your Personality Type? 10. Who do you admire most and why?
I admire my dad most of all. He has worked his way up through life, he knew what he wanted to do and did everything he could to achieve. Despite this though, he still had time for his family and is always there for us when we need him. We have family problems, but his devotion continues to amaze me. When almost everyone else has given up he continues to perservere. He's also one of those people who is still a kid at heart, with an enthusiasm that can rival some 10 year olds at times. I hope that soon I'll be able to figure out what I want to do with my life and can go at it with the same tenacity he did, but still have fun while i'm at it.
11. What would you like to have accomplished at the end of your
life?
I sure do hope I can figure out what I want to do as a profession at some point. Especially since I'm about to graduate with my undergrad...could be problematic. Whatever it is I finally do settle on, I want it to be something that I enjoy. I'm sure it'll have have difficulties, and won't always be fun, I just wish I knew what Other stuff I'd like to accomplish, I'd really like to go to Europe, especially Italy because I've got relatives there.
12. Would you sooner commit a crime against your kin or your
countrymen?
I wouldn't commit one against my kin, I care entirely too much about my family. It is entirely too personal, and they don't have the kind of protection that an entire country has. Its easier to commit a crime against something faceless, than to commit one against someone you know and you trust, like a family member.
13. What would your animagus be and why?
I think I would be an owl, not only because I think they are beautiful creatures. I'm more of a night person myself, I love the silence, and love getting to look at the sky (not that you can see that many stars around Athens lately..) Not to mention the whole "flying" deal would be quite the perk. Nocturnal animals get to have the night to themselves, without all the hussel and bussel of the light hours. They are amazing to look at, but have the ability to defend themselves. They're also one of the smarter birds, always being shown as a symbol of the wise.
14. What would your patronus be and why?
Without a doubt, mine would be a horse. I've been working with them for half of my life, and I'm in a major hoping to somehow work with them in the future. Not to mention, I've seen my horse pissed, she'll tear you up (so says the person who has been both thrown off and almost kicked within the past month). They are beautiful and (mostly) graceful creatures, who prefer to run, but will fight if directly attacked. Not to mention, they're just plain fun and usually pretty easy to entertain.
15. What career would you consider if you were indeed part of the
wizarding world and why?
I wouldn't mind being a Care of Magical Creatures teaching position. I love kids, its the one thing I miss about being at a barn with little kids. I love working with animals though and learning their little quirks. It would be fun to choose which ones to show. Not to mention being able to work those same animals and do research and training with them. Its just the kind of thing that would be up my alley ;)
