How much time are you willing to invest in this community?
Being both a Harry Potter and a Live Journal addict, I'll probably end up investing quite a bit of time into this community.
PART 1 - Canon
1. Have you read all the books?
Of course!
2. Give us your personal interpretation of each Hogwarts house (in
terms of atmosphere, mentality, intra-house relationships et cetera-
these are just a few examples).
Gryffindor- Gryffindors are loyal, brave, and dedicated. While I don't like labeling people, I will be bold and say that Gryffindors fight for the only cause that matters: the one that is noble and true. I don't trust people easily, so the fact that Gryffindors are the very essence of trust and loyalty draws me to them tremendously. Gryffindors are fighters and lovers at the same time. They have the amazing ability of encompassing diehard strength and purpose with gentle kindness. Gryffindors are competitive, but this goes along with their determination. Besides housing the best leaders, Gryffindors are adventure-seekers, risk-takers, and quite good at Quidditch. ;-)
Ravenclaw- Obviously Ravenclaws are very intelligent. I see them as equally mysterious and secretive. To me, Ravenclaws are not particularly studious as they are gifted. They do, however, radiate wisdom and are incredibly inquisitive. Personally, I'm surprised that Hermione didn't get sorted into Ravenclaw, but I think sorting is based on more of a matter of values rather than particular traits. Anyway, besides being brilliant, Ravenclaws like to get to the bottom of things. Like Gryffindors, they're pretty competitive if not a little stubborn, too.
Hufflepuff- Hufflepuffs seem to be oddballs, both creative and eclectic, but they're not just that! I see them as very compassionate, kind, and intensely reliable. Cedric speaks for his House. I think that Hufflepuffs have been thrown from the limelight unjustly, and it's a shame. That being said, I don't have much else to say..
Slytherin- Well, I'm not too fond of Slytherin, but I believe that they deserve just as much respect as the other houses. Just because a lot of their graduates tend to be obsessed with the Dark Arts doesn't mean that everyone sorted into Slytherin is "evil." Slytherins are very intelligent in my point of view, but also untrustworthy and a bit self-absorbed. Not many personalities other than Malfoy and his cronies have been developed within Slytherin, but the ones that have are not, by any means, attractive. Slytherins seem to collect purebloods, and if they themselves are pureblood, never let you hear the end of it.
3. What would be your favourite flavour of Bertie Bott’s Every
Flavour Beans and why (note: as the name implies, all possible flavours
exist)?
Ooh, tough one. Probably cotton candy because while it sounds strange, everything claiming to be cotton candy-flavored does, in fact, taste just like it! I couldn't just pick a normal flavor like peach, either.
4. If you were on your House’s Quidditch Team, which position would
you preferably play and why?
Definitely Seeker. I can't see myself playing anything else. I'm quite observant and it's an understatement to call me determined. Those horrible bludgers terrify me, though..
5. (Optional) What HP conspiracy theory do you hold true unless it
is textually proven otherwise? (i.e. Snape is a vampire, Ron is
Dumbledore, etc.- there are loads of these theories. Feel free to contribute
your own)?
Being a traditionalist (never thought I'd catch myself saying that!) when it comes to things like this, I can't really give you an answer. However, having read HBP, I have half a mind to join the club and declare Dumbledore and Snape in cahoots. ;-)
6. (Optional. If you can't answer #5, make sure you answer this
one.) What is your favorite book aside from HP and why?
Hmm. Anita Diamont's The Red Tent. I like it because it pays attention to the women (who seem to be forgotten in favor of the men) in the Bible, and I'm very interested in history. How can we hope to improve, to not repeat our mistakes, if we do not learn from our past? I'm also a fan of the new CSI (Crime Scene Investigation) series because I'm into that sort of thing.
7. What would your Room of Requirement look like?
Apart from it looking exactly like Hagrid's Hut... What I wouldn't give for a Room of Requirement! It wouldn't be too large, mainly because I have an obsessive personality. In my own room, everything has to be perfect and orderly. If someone were to come in and open a drawer, I'd have to take everything out of it and replace the objects as they were. That being said, my Room of Requirement would have a large window so that I could see the outdoors; hopefully there'd be an ocean somewhere nearby and gorgeous sunshine. It would definitely have a computer (sorry to ruin the illusion!) with a desk so that I could write comfortably and a large, comfy sofa. I would keep a safe in there, too, to hide things of extreme importance (like my HP books, for example).
8. Describe your wand and tell us why you picked that design.
About 13" because I want to have something that I can hold onto. And 13's a safe number. It would be made of oak for strength and containing a phoenix feather for trust, loyalty, and hopefully success.
PART 2 - You
Please go
here and fill out the short Myers-Briggs test.
9. Paste the URL of your results (TOP 5) including its description
here.
I'm not really a big fan of these things because sometimes I'm hopelessly both answers, but here goes:
Your #1 Match: ESFJ
The Caregiver
You are sympathetic and caring, putting friends and family first.
A creature of habit, you prefer routines and have trouble with change.
You love being in groups - whether you're helping people or working on a project.
You are good at listening, laughing, and bringing out the best in people.
You would make a great nurse, social worker, or teacher.
Your #2 Match: ESTJ
The Guardian
You're a natural leader and quick, logical decision maker.
Goals are important in your life, and you take many steps to acheive them.
You enjoy interacting with others, mostly through work related activities.
Your high energy level means you are great at getting things done!
You would make a great teacher, judge, or police detective.
Your #3 Match: ENFJ
The Giver
You strive to maintain harmony in relationships, and usually succeed.
Articulate and enthusiastic, you are good at making personal connections.
Sometimes you idealize relationships too much - and end up being let down.
You find the most energy and comfort in social situations ... where you shine.
You would make a good writer, human resources director, or psychologist.
Your #4 Match: ENTJ
The Executive
You are a natural leader - with confidence and strength that inspires others.
Driven to succeed, you are always looking for ways to gain, power, knowledge, and expertise.
Sometimes you aren't the most considerate person, especially to those who are a bit slow.
You are not easily intimidated - and you have a commanding, awe-inspiring presence.
You would make a great CEO, entrepreneur, or consultant.
Your #5 Match: ISFJ
The Nurturer
You have a strong need to belong, and you very loyal.
A good listener, you excell at helping others in practical ways.
In your spare time, you enjoy engaging your senses through art, cooking, and music.
You find it easy to be devoted to one person, who you do special things for.
You would make a good interior designer, chef, or child psychologist.
What's Your Personality Type? 10. Who do you admire most and why?
Another tough one. I'll go with my uncle (though my mother and I have this wonderful, unbreakable bond) because he has such a colorful personality. He's been through so much and he's handled it all so well; he's influenced me beyond reason and I agree with so many of his views and beliefs. Besides being a Vietnam veteran and a peace-loving, motorcycle-riding hippie, he's an incredible intellect. A quote from him sums it all up: "Good grief!"
11. What would you like to have accomplished at the end of your
life?
I want to be happy. I wish my ideals could end there, but I'm very competitive and extremely goal-oriented (I wouldn't be happy if I didn't accomplish something great), so here goes. I want to graduate from the University of Virginia majoring in Political Science and Criminal Justice, and then go on to be a CIA operative (or a profiler)! Yay.
12. Would you sooner commit a crime against your kin or your
countrymen?
Never! My family means the world to me, I would never betray them.. America, in my opinion, is the best country in the world. It is of utmost importance that we secure the safety of others and abide by the law.. That's not to say that we may have to "bend" the law to make sure the right thing gets done.
13. What would your animagus be and why?
A wolf. So beautiful and fearless, so strong and intelligent.. And with such purpose!
14. What would your patronus be and why?
Probably a unicorn. Unicorns, despite popular belief, are not cute little princesses. They are beautiful, yes, but also very majestic and extremely powerful.
15. What career would you consider if you were indeed part of the
wizarding world and why?
I would love to be an Auror. The very idea of upholding justice and rallying for good mirrors a large part of my personality. Like Harry, the only thing that interests me about the Dark Arts is how to eradicate them! Plus, it seems to be the wizarding world career most equivalent to my dream job (a CIA agent).
