LUMOS SORTING APPLICATION

Name: Ariella Bouskila

Age (13 or up; we stick to LJ rules): 14, I’ll be 15 next March.

Location:I live in Montreal, which is in the province of Quebec, which is in Canada.

Where did you hear about this community? (Please tell us which
lj user recommended you for he/she shall be given a point.) I heard about this community from ameranthine, a friend from a message board I go on.

How much time are you willing to invest in this community?
I think that the time I’m either willing or able to spend here would vary. During vacations from school-winter break, spring break, summer vacation- I think I could spend maybe half an hour every day, barring Saturdays(I’m Jewish, so I can’t use electricity on shabbos) here.During the school year, I’d have less time to go on the computer, but I’d be willing to spend around an hour a week, if I’m not buried under piles of homework.

PART 1 - Canon

1. Have you read all the books?
Yes, I’ve read all the books, along with Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them and Quidditch Through the Ages. I’ve read all the books except for Half-Blood Prince at least twice.(I will reread it, as soon as the rest of my family finished reading it.) I tend to stay away from Harry Potter fanfiction.

2. Give us your personal interpretation of each Hogwarts house (in
terms of atmosphere, mentality, intra-house relationships et cetera -
these are just a few examples).
Gryffindor: The Gryffindors are the brave ones, the ones that are most likely to have a hero-mentality. They’re competitive and driven; they really want to win at the Quidditch Cup and the other contests. They’re friendly with all the Houses, except for Slytherin, who they think are nasty, or even evil, because they don’t have the same high moral standards as the Gryffindors. They want to push the boundaries in their life, they want to explore.

Slytherin: Slytherin are, as their name suggests, the ‘sly’ ones. They’re highly ambitious, they want to be powerful. They have ambiguous moral standards, and thus see themselves as a bit higher up than other beings. The Slytherins might not necessarily be evil, but they might be a little nasty. They have great pride in themselves, sometimes even false pride, and thus want to prove themselves, to show “See? See, I’m better than the next person!”. They take great pride in being ‘pureblood’, or from old, rich families.

Hufflepuff: Usually, people don’t want to be sorted into Hufflepuff, because they think that that’s where all the ‘leftovers’ go, the people who just aren’t smart enough for Ravenclaw, brave enough for Gryffindor, or sly enough for Slytherin. However, Hufflepuffs are loyal and caring, and they can stand up to almost anything. They strive to be fair, just, not turned by any one opinion. Because of this inherent fairness and the fact that they might be looked down upon by the other Houses, they are sympathetic to others who share their plight. They associate well with the other Houses, treating each the same. They aren’t as competitive as Gryffindor, though they do want to prove that they aren’t really the dregs, the ones who were passed over, but can do well in their own right.

Ravenclaw: Ravenclaws are the smart ones. They want to know everything, to learn all. They are the type most likely to become teachers, because they want to pass on their knowledge. Sometimes it might look like Ravenclaws look down on the other Houses, as if they’re saying “Nyah, nyah, we’re smarter than you are”, but that’s not usually the case. They tend to stick to the rules, thinking that the rules were made for a reason, they should follow them. They do have a touch of pride and are competitive.

3. What would be your favourite flavour of Bertie Bott’s Every
Flavour Beans and why (note: as the name implies, all possible flavours
exist)? I’m not exactly sure what my favourite Bertie Bott’s would be, because I really don’t know what my favourite food is. I love quite a few flavours, but I can’t point to one and say “yes, that, that is definitely the best”, because I don’t know which is the best. But I think that the ones I’d enjoy the most would be either flavoured as any citrus fruit(I love them all!), mint, or coffee.

4. If you were on your House’s Quidditch Team, which position would
you preferably play and why? I’m not very athletic(understatement of the year!), but the position of Keeper does appeal to me. You keep your eyes out for one red ball, and the two Bludgers, and you catch them when they near your posts. You have three hoops to guard; you don’t have to learn any special tactic like the players that move around more. I think it appeals to me because I tend to guard those around me closely, and that translates onto the Quidditch pitch.

5. (Optional) What HP conspiracy theory do you hold true unless it
is textually proven otherwise? (i.e. Snape is a vampire, Ron is
Dumbledore, etc. -there are loads of these theories. Feel free to contribute
your own)? I believe that Snape is not a Death Eater, that he’s still Dumbledore’s man through-and-through, no matter what. I just can’t believe that Dumbledore made such a judgement mistake with him.

6. (Optional. If you can't answer #5, make sure you answer this
one.) What is your favorite book aside from HP and why?
Y’know what? I really, really don’t know. I read voraciously, but I haven’t yet got my hands on all the books I’d like to read. I don’t think I’ll ever be able to answer that question, just like “what would your favourite Bertie Bott’s be”, or “what is your favourite colour”. There are just too many wonderful ones for me to choose. If I absolutely had to, I’d probably say that it’s “Good Omens”, by Neil Gaiman and Terry Pratchett. It’s hilarious, it’s got supernatural beings in it, it’s by two of some of the best fantasy authors on the planet.

7. What would your Room of Requirement look like?
Apart from it looking exactly like Hagrid’s hut… it’d probably be a big room, with shelves upon shelves full of all the books I’d ever possibly want to read, along with a big sofa, a desk for drawing, a computer, and the music I like playing. It would be a room in which I could relax, talk to people in, read in, and do all the things I’d like to. It would preferably have a corner that would change with what I wanted to do:If, say, I wanted to bake something it would be a kitchen. The walls would be a light turquoise. It would be, I guess, somewhere that I could hide away from life, it would be a cozy nest for me.

8. Describe your wand and tell us why you picked that design. I think my want would be long-say, about eleven inches. I think long wands are much more graceful than short ones. The core would be one phoenix tail-feather, because I’ve always loved the myth of phoenixes, and I think that it would make it a strong wand, without hurting the phoenix like taking dragon heart-strings would kill the dragon. The wood would be oak, because it’s a sturdy, sensible sort of wood. So. 11-inch oak with phoenix tail feather.

What's Your Personality Type?

10. Who do you admire most and why? I’d have to say here, my mother. She is amazingly smart, she adapts well. She’s always been there for me and I can ask her anything. She’s very strong, internally. She knows a great many languages-she studied to be a linguist- and can help me with most problems I’m facing. She is a wonderful mother, and I try to be like her in my daily life.

11. What would you like to have accomplished at the end of your
life? I would like to have accomplished many things. I want to have published a book-whether a collection of short pieces or a novel-, I want to have improved in my art, I want to have a family, but most of all I want mine to be a happy life.

12. Would you sooner commit a crime against your kin or your
countrymen?I really, really can’t imagine doing either. But if it was between, say, stealing a thousand dollars from the Canadian government or from my family, I’d take it from the government. I’d never do anything to hurt my family willingly.

13. What would your animagus be and why?
I think that my animagus might be an otter. They’re quick and clever, and they love water. They stay in holts, with their kin. They also play around quite a bit. I think that I have several of an otter’s traits, and they are beautiful(unlike me >_<). If not an otter,I’d be a bird.
14. What would your patronus be and why?
The animal I would summon with a Patronus charm would be…..I think it would be a bison. Bison are large and comforting, and they can run fast if they have to. But you’re never sure what you’ll get until you try the charm, which is impossible.
15. What career would you consider if you were indeed part of the
wizarding world and why? I think that I would have some sort of job with the Ministry of Magic. I would love to work in the Department of Mysteries, possibly working with the Hall of Prophecies. I would not be able to discuss my job with anyone, but I don’t find it all that hard to keep secrets, so that wouldn’t be a problem. It would be fascinating, to work with things that a normal wizard doesn’t know about, to learn of the mysteries residing there.

I apologize if the cut doesn't work-my computer HATES cuts.
