LUMOS SORTING APPLICATION

Name: Ashley Jane Cecilia

Age (13 or up; we stick to LJ rules): seventeen, though I'll be eighteen in about two weeks.

Location: a rural town in Maine, USA...not always the most exciting place around. In fact, never the most exciting place, anywhere!

Where did you hear about this community? (Please tell us which
lj user recommended you for he/she shall be given a point.) It was through a comment in harleen's journal, though I can't recall who it was at the time. If you made the comment be sure to let me know so I can give you proper credit!

How much time are you willing to invest in this community? Loads, on account of boredom, free time, and because Harry Potter is the greatest.

PART 1 - Canon

1. Have you read all the books? Yes

2. Give us your personal interpretation of each Hogwarts house (in
terms of atmosphere, mentality, intra-house relationships et cetera -
these are just a few examples).

Gryffindor - Those sorted into Gryffindor are good, courageous people who follow their heart above anything else. They don't always go along with the rules, and yet their disregard for authority isn't just because they want to be rebellious, it's for a worthy cause. Their friends and family mean the world to them, and it's with their loyalty that they're able to stick together as such a strong house.

Hufflepuff - Hmm..what to say about Hufflepuff? I think they're hard working, cheerful people that have a tendency to not dabble in the darker side of things. Not to say that they're ignorant towards some of the things that go on in the wizarding world, just that they choose not to focus on them. Because they're friendly, they get along well as a house, which allows them and Gryffindor to coincide well as two unified houses that are able to function together. I don't really think any two people in Hufflepuff and Gryffindor have ever formed a lasting friendship, but the two houses get along well.

Ravenclaw - Intelligent and dedicated to their endeavors, I've noticed that Ravenclaw students are both take charge and amiable. This makes them a lot like Gryffindor students, but I think their difference lies in their thoughts on authority. Where as Gryffindor students would disregard rules for their missions, Ravenclaws are more tactful of their boundaries and would find alternate ways to do things that wouldn't risk trouble. Because of this, Gryffindors and Ravenclaws aren't close as houses, and maybe in one way they can't understand the other's way of operating. Ravenclaws and Hufflepuffs I imagine to be more friendly together, but interaction between those two houses isn't very plentiful in the books.

Slytherin - I don't think all Slytherins are dark, demented Death Eaters. I think they are sly, cunning and intelligent. I also think that they work best alone, and rely most heavily upon themselves. Not to say that they don't have friends, but their trust is rarely given and earned only with the utmost difficulty. Since Gryffindors are more committed to their bonds with others, Slytherin house tends to clash with them. Slytherins and Ravenclaws get along civilly because they share many of the same traits. I think of Slytherin and Hufflepuff as virtual opposites, mostly because Hufflepuffs are optimistic and rely upon each other for strength, and Slytherins think of things slightly more cynically and are more solitary.

3. What would be your favourite flavour of Bertie Bott’s Every
Flavour Beans and why (note: as the name implies, all possible flavours
exist)? My Dad's Homemade Cranberry Sauce. Because his cranberry sauce is delicious and I think it would make an awesome jelly bean, much better than a vomit flavored one.

4. If you were on your House’s Quidditch Team, which position would
you preferably play and why? Seeker, because I'm terrible at most sports and lack a lot of coordination so keeper and chaser are out. And I think I'd probably cause someone a horrible injury if I were a beater. Plus it would excite me to search around for the snitch.

5. (Optional) What HP conspiracy theory do you hold true unless it
is textually proven otherwise? (i.e. Snape is a vampire, Ron is
Dumbledore, etc. -there are loads of these theories. Feel free to contribute
your own)? Hmm...Snape is pretty pale, I bet he could be a vampire actually. But in all seriousness I think that Dobby is Hagrid, who is actually Madam Rosmerta, but only on the full moon. And if that's too much for you to take in, then maybe I should tell you about my Kreacher/Snape romantic pairing?

6. (Optional. If you can't answer #5, make sure you answer this
one.) What is your favorite book aside from HP and why?
The Alchemist by Paulo Coelho, it's a fabulous adventure of a boy who travels in search of his destiny. It's one of those books that when you read it you go "WOW!" I like those books.

7. What would your Room of Requirement look like?
Apart from it looking exactly like Hagrid's Hut...it would look nothing like Hagrid's hut. It would be a beautifully decorated room with lots of flowing, colorful curtains and cushy chairs and pillows everywhere and beads and candles. And it would have soft Indian music playing so that it'd be relaxing, and it would smell faintly like some sort of spices and flowers. And there'd be a table that would fill up automatically with all of my favorite foods, and there'd be a passageway that leads right through to Hogsmeade (no detection so Filch wouldn't find it) so I could sneak out if I ever needed to. This room would be my room of relaxation, where I could just hang out free of distraction with whoever I please.

8. Describe your wand and tell us why you picked that design.
10" ash wand with a phoenix feather, because phoenixes are one of my favorite magical creatures, and ash since my name is Ash, and Ollivander describes ash wands as "pleasantly springy".
