Where did you hear about this community? (Please tell us which
lj user recommended you for he/she shall be given a point.) I was randomly browsing through a friend of a friend's LJ and saw a link. I think the username was
visceralvamp, or something like that; I DO remember she was a Hufflepuff.
How much time are you willing to invest in this community? Right now my time is rather free up, and I spend lots of time on LiveJournal anyway, even when I've read all of my friends' page seven times. At least a few hours a week.
PART 1 - Canon
1. Have you read all the books? I have! I'm ashamed to say that I didn't stay up until 8AM reading Half-Blood Prince, like some people I know, but I did finish it by Sunday morning. I've read the first four over or about five times each, although I've misplaced my copies of both Sorcerer/Philosopher's Stone and Goblet of Fire. ('Misplaced' isn't really the right word, I know exactly where I lost them and I know there isn't any chance of getting them back. This makes me sad.) I've read OotP about three times all the way through and HBP a grand total of once.
2. Give us your personal interpretation of each Hogwarts house (in
terms of atmosphere, mentality, intra-house relationships et cetera -
these are just a few examples).
Gryffindor--let's face it, the House of Heroes. At least as far as J.K. Rowling is concerned. In the books, the Gryffindors are the people that most of the readers can identify with--maybe because they /are/ very day-to-day sorts of people or maybe because they get more screen time. More people are biased towards Gryffindor just because most of the important main characters in the Harry Potter series are Gryffindor. They're the do-gooders. Courageous. STOUT rivals of Slytherin, as far as intra-house relationships go; they get along fine with Hufflepuff and Ravenclaw but loathe Slytherins as a rule.
Slytherin--evil evil bad bad bad! Actually, I'm not as biased towards Slytherin as the books try to make me; sure, Slytherins are a little more selfish and a little less righteous, but let's face it--lots of successful people in the Real World are that way. Lots of perfectly 'good' people, too. Ambition is the big trait for Slytherin. Although most canon examples depict them as nasty people in general, I think maybe Slytherins just have a little less social grace than the other houses. The other end of the established Gryffindor-Slytherin rivalry.
Ravenclaw--while most people conjure to mind images of wiry, glasses-wearing bookworms, I think that Ravenclaw is less about the fact-memorizing type of intelligence and more about revolutionaries. Most Ravenclaws do have a love for books--but established ideas and facts are exactly that: already there. Ravenclaws bring fresh perspective (I.E. Luna Lovegood. She's definately not an Einstein, per se, but she's got her own way of thinking that's fresh and new.) Because of the Ravenclaw stereotype, they seem a little more closed-off from the rest of the houses.
Hufflepuff--I always thought of them as the 'fun' bunch. They aren't the brightest bulbs in the box, but they know how to have fun and they are extremely loyal and hardworking. Kind of like dogs. In one of the Sorting Hat songs, I forget which, Hufflepuffs are referred to as sorts of LEFTOVERS--a grave injustice on Mr. Hat's part, I think, because those Badgers have a lot to offer. Forgo-ing book characters for the moment (cougherniecough), Hufflepuffs seem to be the mediators of the houses, the most well-intentioned. They have a stable relationship with all of the houses.
3. What would be your favourite flavour of Bertie Bott’s Every
Flavour Beans and why (note: as the name implies, all possible flavours
exist)?
I'm really fond of tuttifrutti. Or maybe strawberry-banana. I'm pretty sure there are lots of people that say 'I like grass!', maybe to be different, but I don't really like how grass tastes (although it DOES smell good), so I'll go with the conventional. I don't know whether or not this reveals something about my character, but tuttifrutti jellybeans are just plain good. Unlike buttered popcorn or vomit or printer cartridge remains.
4. If you were on your House’s Quidditch Team, which position would
you preferably play and why?
I want to say something cool like BEATER because I do like hitting things, but I honestly don't think I'd have the agility for that. I'd probably be the keeper. Random personal fact--I play basketball. I'm a forward, which means I'm always back by the goal. TOTALLY DIFFERENT GAME, but yeah, I don't think I'd be in the midst of the action; I'd either be a Chaser by the opposite goals waiting to be fed the quaffle or a Keeper, floating abjectly and waiting for my chance at stardom. Plus, Keepers don't have to do much if the rest of the team plays good. What a relaxing sport.
5. (Optional) What HP conspiracy theory do you hold true unless it
is textually proven otherwise? (i.e. Snape is a vampire, Ron is
Dumbledore, etc. -there are loads of these theories. Feel free to contribute
your own)?
**HBP SPOILER - HIGHLIGHT TO READ** (just a precaution.)
I don't know if this counts as a Conspiracy Theory, but re: Snape's murdering of Dumbledore. I don't like Snape that much as a character, but I really don't believe he's evil. I'm a believer of the basic theory that when Dumbledore was pleading, he was pleading for Snape to kill him, not spare him; since Harry was helpless and immobile under the invisibility cloak, Dumbledore was protecting him. Whether this strengthens the charm Lily had previously cast or just changes the blood, I don't quite know yet--new theory, haven't really thought it through, just read a few things about it--but the thing that convinced me the most was Snape yelling about Harry calling him a coward. So yes--I don't hold with ridiculous theories (i.e. Snape is a vampire--why. Because he's waxy and smells funny?) but that one made sense to me.
6. (Optional. If you can't answer #5, make sure you answer this
one.) What is your favorite book aside from HP and why?
This tends to change a lot. And sometimes--please don't hurt me--HP isn't always my favorite book. I really like anything by Gregory Maguire because he puts a new twist on old stories (aka Wicked, Mirror Mirror, and Confessions of an Ugly Stepsister.) I also really like the book Life of Pi by Yann Martel because I'm a sucker for survivor-stories. PLUS there's a tiger.
7. What would your Room of Requirement look like?
Apart from it looking exactly like Hagrid's Hut, well. Again, something that would probably fluctuate. Right now? It would be a lounge area with lots of beanbag chairs and maybe a pinball machine in the corner that makes 'ding!' noises every now and then. A little reading nook in the other corner. Board games (I'm a sucker for a big game of taboo with friends) and lots and lots of snackage.
8. Describe your wand and tell us why you picked that design.
Using Alivans' (www.alivans.com) as a referance for the workings of wand woods, I would have to choose a medium-length yew wand with dragon heartstring. Yew is supposedly more for transfiguration work and is associated often with death and rebirth, so you'd expect it to go along with Phoenix feather awesomely. I've always been a dragon fanatic, though, so I'm biased. Dragon heartstring is, I think, almost a symbol of eternal life and immense strength--inner strength, especially, is an important thing.

What's Your Personality Type? 10. Who do you admire most and why?
Pardon me, but this question is almost verbatim a writing topic I had in seventh grade and, while I could rattle off several names and empty reasons that won't really matter to any of you, I find it hard to answer questions like these with any amount of honesty. I guess one answer that will always be unchanged, if you must have one, would be my mom; my parents are divorced and she works really insanely hard to keep us out of crap--even though we end up with one foot in more often than not. Hope that's good enough.
11. What would you like to have accomplished at the end of your
life?
I have a list of things to accomplish before I'm thirty--I haven't really thought beyond that. As far as professional life goes--I want to end up in a career, yes, something life-long but something that I love, and can wake up every morning looking forward to. I also want to travel. A lot. A WHOLE lot.
12. Would you sooner commit a crime against your kin or your
countrymen?
My countrymen. I'll admit I'm not very patriotic. I'm much more loyal to my family because I actually know MOST of them, react with them often, feel a connection with them; I can get this way with close friends sometimes, too. But saying I support some bozo on the other side of the country that I barely know just on principle? Not my kind of thing. Although, I probably wouldn't commit a crime in the first place. I'm kind of a wuss when it comes to getting caught.
13. What would your animagus be and why?
I'm a believer of the animal-chooses-person mentality when it comes to Animagi and Patronuses. ((It would suck if I got chosen by a slug, though.)) My favorite animals--and I know this isn't the question--are wolves and larger birds-of-prey. I think I would be a wolf because I can be very predatory sometimes, but I also show a lot of practical sense, loyalty, and playfulness. Wolves also have a nice wild allure. ...I don't, but I thought I'd just mention.
14. What would your patronus be and why?
At the moment, my patronus would probably be a bird of some sort (because, as most of us know, patronuses can change if something dramatic happens to a person.) I'm biased towards bigger birds. Hawks, eagles, those kinds of birds. Lots of things are happening to me lately, personally, that are very life-changing and will have a profound effect on the rest of my life. To quote WICKED, "It's time to try defying gravity," right?
15. What career would you consider if you were indeed part of the
wizarding world and why?
I would NOT be an Auror.
Now that that's out of the way. Either Muggle Liaison or something in the Department for the Regulation and Control of Magical Creatures. Despite what the quiz says, I don't think I'd make a very successful entrepeneur, so business is out. That leaves, mostly, the Ministry-allocated jobs. I love animals. Simple reason for that. I also am ALWAYS finding myself the middleman or mediator, I like trying to bridge the gap between groups, so there comes the reason for Muggle Liaison.
