LUMOS SORTING APPLICATION

Name: Anna Michael
Though I was born Keum Sun Cho, in Pusan (South Korea). When I was adopted my parents were going to name me 'Michael' if I was a boy and 'Anna' if I was a girl. When they saw me they decided to go for both, so 'Michael' is my middle name. I have a passport in both names, however. (Anna Michael and Keum Sun Cho).
Age (13 or up; we stick to LJ rules): 18. I just turned 18 in June, which makes me legal for... twoish months? Either way, I'm eighteen. And counting the days until I'll be nineteen.
Location: Michigan. Somewhere. Soon to be Indiana, for college. A small town near the border of Ohio and Indiana, Richmond. Not at all like Richmond, VA, I can assure you.
Where did you hear about this community? (Please tell us which
lj user recommended you for he/she shall be given a point.)
The Wonderful Hogwarts_Elite members mentioned lumos to me. I sold my soul to them, and all I got was this broken .jpg. [x]

How much time are you willing to invest in this community?
A little less than I devote to H_E, but probably an hour a day. Maybe. It really depends on the day, during the school year far less. During the summer I'm on at all frickin' hours of the day. So, much more in the summer, unless I have ice cream. That takes priority.

PART 1 - Canon
1. Have you read all the books?
I've read all the books, including the sixth. And seen all the movies, but that has nothing to do with this question. Nor do you probably care. I am a big fan of the 'more mature' books, and the dark tone really makes me go 'fangirly'. Though I know you're reaching for your auto-squib buttons because I said that.

2. Give us your personal interpretation of each Hogwarts house (in
terms of atmosphere, mentality, intra-house relationships et cetera -
these are just a few examples).

Slytherin: This is the house that gets a bad reputation in the books. However people seem to think that ambition is a trait that we should all look down upon. Ambition is what drives people to reach for something better, and all the houses have a touch of it, I just feel that it is more undiluted in Slytherin. Not only are they driven, but Slytherins are willing to make sacrifices for what they want. They are able to keep their eye on the goal and one on what comes before that. So they can see what they're stepping on and make that concious decision to do so. While other houses may save the world, make the world move smoother or other such things, Slytherins will inherit the world. Slytherins that I see in history are Cleopatra, Alexander the Great and many of the other conquerers that have inspired (and changed the world). Slytherins aren't ones to hold the prayer circles or grouply support meetings with other houses. They aren't going to go out of their way to be friendly unless there is a gain to it. Not that I mean that in a negative way, but if being friends with someone brings nothing but trouble, why bother?

If Slytherins owned a restaurant I think it would most likely be Italian. A dim atmosphere, with candlelight instead of halogens or something equally inane. The tables would be well dressed, not to mention the silverware would be of the highest quality, along with the china. The menu would be sophiscated and steeped in old blood ( though hopefully not literally ). This would be a place where you had to dress up to go, and the host isn't beyond snubbing you if you don't quite match up. However, the food is excellent.

How many Slytherins would it take to screw in a lightbulb?
None. They'd get someone else to do it.

Ravenclaw: People associate Ravenclaw with books and learning. Since the only glimpse that the readers of Harry Potter get is the sorting song and what few appearances there are of the 'Claws it is hard to give them any other attributes. However, I see the 'Claws more as people who are innately good at academics and thinking. They aren't necessarily people who seek out books and bookworm habits, but their natural intelligence leads them to discover or their natural curiousity does. They, like the Slytherins, aren't about to offer their hand to any people who they don't see as worth their time. However, what people are worth is more about if they can form a sucessful conversation with the 'Claws. They're house dynamic is a little more closely knit that the Puffs or Gryffs, but not quite as secluded as the Slyths.

If the Ravenclaws owned a restaurant I think it might be French or Indian food. Something with an intense and complex flavor. Their restaurant would be well lit, with color coordinated drapes, chairs, tables and place settings. While the Slyth's theme would be all about sophistication theirs would be more about being the best. Like the Slytherin restaurant being well dressed is a must, not to mention that most people who would go probably have the palette for it. A restaurant with plenty of loyal customers and a bit of a reputation.

How many Ravenclaws does it take to screw in a lightbulb?
14. One to do it and 13 to analze.

Gryffindor The hero's house of the books. Gryffindors are, plainly put, spotlight whores. They need to shine and get the acceptance of people through their deeds. They try to stick out and are always doing things that attract attention. While other houses go out of their way to be polite, be subtle or prove themselves through their natural traits Gryffindors prove themselves through their deeds. They are the popular kids in school, the people who play sports and get recognized for it. Not to mention the students that break the rules just to prove points.

If Gryffindors owned a restaurant it would probably be a grill or a 'good old American' type place. With outdooor seating, far more casual than the 'Claw or Slyth place. The inside would be fun loving, eye catching and not at all coordinated. Kind of like an Applebees.

3. One to do it. One to brag about it and one to stand there and look good.

Hufflepuff Hagrid actually mentions that this is 'a house of duffers' in the first book. I think they are not duffers at all. While they might have gotten shoddy canon appearances, I think that every house had some of those. They are hard workers, and they are loyal. Why are those such bad traits? If anything a Hufflepuff won't hold the same kind of intense grudges at the other houses, but second chances are good. They welcome people and aren't quick to judge, but once they do judge if you're on their good list then bully for you. However, if you happen to get on their not-so-good list the Puffs will come at you en masse. They are the school teachers, librarians, and workers everywhere. A Hufflepuff can also be found in CEO and other higher positions, but that is probably a Puff with a streak of Slyth or Claw in them.

A Hufflepuff owned restaurant would probably be a Ma and pa owned place, bed and breakfast or other more 'homely' place. It would be comfy, probably with muted colors and rich, yet homestyle food. Their silverware wouldn't be real silver, nor would their drapes me silk. A tie isn't needed and the service is always friendly.

40. One to do it, 32 to cheer them on and 7 for moral support.
3. What would be your favourite flavour of Bertie Bott’s Every
Flavour Beans and why (note: as the name implies, all possible flavours
exist)?

Autumn. If there is such a thing, but the question implies that there is. It would be like dry weather and leaves all rolled into one. Not to mention a bit crunchy when biting into it. Probably a dull brown color, with a bit of a sheen. Some smoke from early chimmney fires mixed in as well as apples and apple cider.

4. If you were on your House’s Quidditch Team, which position would
you preferably play and why?

I wouldn't play Quidditch. Instead I'd run an illegal gambling ring on its outcome. Seriously, I'd probably try to rig the game in my favor as well. But if I had to pick a position it would probably be a beater. I like to hit things

5. (Optional) What HP conspiracy theory do you hold true unless it
is textually proven otherwise? (i.e. Snape is a vampire, Ron is
Dumbledore, etc. -there are loads of these theories. Feel free to contribute
your own)?

I think that Harry is actually a younger Tom Riddle catapulted into the future when Voldemort began making horcruxes. Both he and Tom are parlsemouths, which Dumbledore tried to explain by the scar and transfer of magic. However, I think that this is simply a coverup. The fact that both Voldemort and Harry are similar in appearance, as well as parentage. Lily and James Potter were merely a coverup for the fact that Dumbledore had the young Tom Riddle. The young baby Tom Riddle and he asked Lily and James to be pretend parents for him.

The reason that Voldemort couldn't kill Harry the first time leads back to this theory. He is Harry and vice versa. The reason that only Harry can kill Voldemort comes back to this as well. If Harry ceases to exist, so will Voldemort (Since JK's version of time travel makes it possible to be a loop and for two of the same thing to exist in the same place). Voldemort is disfigured, and Harry has his scar. Both of them show an aptitude for the same spells, and the same kind of inborn charisma that makes people follow them.

Not only that... but there is the strange dream-connections. Scar? I think not.

6. (Optional. If you can't answer #5, make sure you answer this
one.) What is your favorite book aside from HP and why?

My favorite book of all time has to be Saints and Sinners it is a short story collection. I don't remember all the stories, but one of them is about Lizzie Borden and the other has this cute story about a woman, eggs and vodka. It is a very good book and sparks the interest from just the title. I think 'Angela Carter' wrote it, but I'm not sure.

Another book which I really enjoy is The Historical Biography of Alexander the Great. Seriously. I read that baby for light reading. Also, I tend to carry it with me, on a regular basis. Its a killer on the back.

7. What would your Room of Requirement look like?
"Apart from it looking exactly like Hagrid's Hut..."

Ew. A dungeon, I think. A little dank, and definitely cold, with lots of stone. With candles, because I love candles, and several books. Not to mention a minifridge and my own horde of minions to carry it out.

On the other hand, it might be a dark gothic club. Well, a club, with lots of flashy lights, pretty people and as much rum and coke as I could ever want. Probably a french discotheque.

What does this say about me? I feel like my room of requirement would be something that would let me unwind and release. That's something more of us need to do these days.

8. Describe your wand and tell us why you picked that design.

My wand would be 11 inches, made out of ebony wood and have something unique inside. Really, not to sound like a Mary Sue, but maybe shard of unicorn's horn? That is what I'd like. In reality it'd probably be willow and holly and phoenix feather or something. Probably good with charms work and horrible for transfiguration.

What's Your Personality Type?

10. Who do you admire most and why?
I really admire Alexander the Great. He conquered the known world before he was thirty, well, most of it. All of it by his thirty-second. He was a brilliant tactician and knew his strategy. He should have died thirty times, but he never did. So his luck must have been fairly good as well. Alexander defeated everything that came his way, and yet he tried to maintain a balance within his nations. Adopting Persian dress as well as their ways... unfortunately it only served to alienate his Greek followers.

He left his mark on the world.

11. What would you like to have accomplished at the end of your
life?
(This really tags into my No. 10)
I want to leave My mark on the world. I want people to remember me and what I've done. To hear my name and be like "Oh, that person!" With recognition, and hopefully respect. (Awe would be pretty good as well). I want people to have me in their textbooks and websites as the person who was known for ____.

12. Would you sooner commit a crime against your kin or your
countrymen?

Countrymen. Judging from what I see of my countrymen and who they elected they can get a spork in the face for all I care. While I'm not a big person on the whole 'blood is thicker than water', blood is certainly thicker than a piece of paper. Also, my kin I feel I owe something. My countrymen? Not so much. Blood isn't thicker than everything, but if I had to choose, countrymen, hands down.

13. What would your animagus be and why?
A snake or a spider. Neither of them are very big, and I don't like to be noticed by people. A snake has many talents, and can slide almost anywhere. Not to mention I'd make a cool necklace then. A spider is also small, and has several eyes. I'd love to have more than two eyes, not to mention eight legs. And venom. That way people would be more wary of being mean to me.

14. What would your patronus be and why?
My patronus would be an ocelot. A member of the big cat family, without the power (or reputation) of a tiger or lion. A bit shy and definitely nocturnal the ocelot has claws and teeth, but doesn't use them unless it needs to. Not to mention its a really cool looking animal.

15. What career would you consider if you were indeed part of the
wizarding world and why?
I would be... I'd marry rich and not do anything. Because I don't really want a job. If I did have to ahve a job I'd be a writer or a teacher. So that people would remember me, and as a teacher I could influence students.
