Summary: Is age just a number systematically given to us by the world we were born into, and which we should calibrate our life by, or, is it just one of those whimsical decisions of faith, which we can't help, but can overlook? 15 year old Kazuki Motohashi is about to live the most interesting one week of his relatively short existence, when by chances, he meets with 30 year old Yuu Shiroyama. A week where time will take a whole different meaning; seconds and decades alike.

The Scent of Cherry Blossoms

-Tadaima ...- mechanically stated Kazuki in a barely audible tone, as he placed his bag on the floor while removed his shoes before stepping into the hallways of his oversized house, and … okaeri was the reply that the cheerful voice in his mind would kindly always give him, given that for some time now, there was nobody who would do so. However, it couldn't be helped , given that his father was always at work, and his mother was always … somewhere … he didn't know, and in all honesty, he truly didn't want to, even though he had clues as to where she could have been.

Walking past the huge wall-mirror on the right side of the hallway, he stopped to look at a set of framed pictures of himself and his parents. He picked up one were he'd probably been eight, or younger, the three of them were all laughing while hugging each other, in the same cherry blossom park he loved to escape to; they seemed really happy. Now, the way things were between his parents, he couldn't quite vouch for them bur, he'd been truly happy. I have the best family in the world he'd always thought, well, things were somewhat different now, weren't day? “Somewhat different ...” really didn't cover it though, did it?

It didn't.

Everything was entirely different, then again, it might have always been as such, and he either just never noticed, or his parents were just some rather talented lairs, given how all of a sudden, somewhere along the way, they simply began to talk less and less to each other, saw each other less and less, kissed each other … no more. He had no idea what caused this abrupt change in their behavior, there had been no screaming, or physical abuse, or even fights at that, which was the most unsettling part. It was almost as if they had finally fulfilled the end of some sort of agreement, and now that it was done, they weren't entitled to “love each other” anymore. It sounded very stupid, but that was exactly how it felt, and it hurt. Having to realize that people could just stop loving each other, so suddenly and mechanically like switching CDs int a music player was quite the scary and painful thought, since he'd always imagined, and read love as being this ever lasting pulling force that would keep two together forever through thick, thin, and what more.

Of course, there were other factors that determined the success of a marriage, he was both old, and read enough to know that only love wouldn't pay the bills, but “this thing” their parents still dared to call a family had become a very big mockery. Sure, food was on the table, they were protected, they had everything, but it was just so difficult to be among them added to the silence they seemed to be enjoying a bit too much, such as having them visibly force a smile while talking to him, it was innervating, and he often had resolved to think it better that his parents had never loved each other in the first place.

That line of thought, was much easier to accept than to think that they suddenly stopped loving each other. And if that were to have actually been the case, he wished they'd just do everyone a favor and divorce already; funny how that prospect felt like it could bring so much more happiness. Placing back the picture faced-down, and picking up his bag, he glimpsed at himself in the mirror, and quickly walked away from it, feeling the embarrassment surfing up his cheeks from his almost childish action. He was indeed starting to feel guilty to the point of not being able to look at his reflection, but still not so sorry as to regret the action itself.

Proceeding towards the second floor, he then turned left once arrived, and was about to open the door to his room when his phone suddenly vibrated in his pocket. Carelessly dropping his school bag to the floor he leaned on the closed door, and answered the call, which was coming from Jin

-Moshi-mo- he tried to politely answer, but wasn't given any chance, as he was instantly cut-off by an incredibly excited sounding Jin

-We are passing around six okay? So that I can fix you up a bit, since I am sure you are not going to do any of the stuff I told you to …- blurted out the blond -... any questions, concerns?- quickly added the voice

-I … am not too sure I want to go anymore … I- tried to cautiously protest Kazuki

-I am not listening to that, we have spoke about it before! You promised me you'd come, it's my freaking birthday for crying out loud, why would my best friend not come to something he set up for me, are you stupid?!- angrily protested the blond, as the younger silently sighed, leaning further into the door

-I did that because you liked that kinda stuff, I mean seriously … do you see me spending hours uncomfortably dressed up, bearing obnoxiously loud music, and having people potentially throw up on me, or worse … ugh no … I'm staying home ...- resolutely concluded, receiving not a single word form his interlocutor -... Jin? ...- calmly called Kazuki, but once again received no answer -Jin oh common don't give me that … Jin? … ugggh... god you are so childish! ...- he then annoyingly exclaimed as he realized he was been given the silence treatment -... it's not like I won't spend time with you before the beginning of the event … common! Jin ...- he kept pushing, while frustratedly grumbling to himself -... okay okay! I am coming happy?!- he finally hissed, receiving an instant yeeeeey!! from the blond. He really could have just hanged up, and not go, but he knew very well that as much as he loved to think himself as asocial as it could get, the truth was that he treasured the blond's friendship quite a lot, being the only person he could ever confide in and that had always been there for him. Thus, having him being mad at him on the day of his birthday wasn’t exactly any his “to do list”, even though he knew they would have made up rather quickly the next day …. or two.

-So see you in some hours, and wear the damn shorts! - informed and warned Jin, making the other blond roll his eyes

-Hai hai ...- he lowly agreed, and hanged up after the other had professed his usual ... ja yoroppiku and hanged up as well. Newly picking up his bag, while getting inside his room, he threw his bag on the bed, went straight for his window, opened it, and stalled.

Normally, he would have gone straight for the book he was currently reading, anxious to find out what was to happen next, and maybe see if his predictions matched, much better than waiting on a mother he knew wouldn't come back until late wearing the strong smell, which was the combinations of many expensive men-cologne, or waiting for his father, who would come back, and act like he was afflicted by a perennial cold, and could smell nothing. His world, the one he had created with his books, was sadly so much better. Sadly because no matter how he truly loved to read, “this” truly wasn't the way it was supposed to be, but unfortunately; had also sadly got used to it.

Today, however, he wasn't too curious about finding out whether Sareeyee had solved the riddle to open the doors of the mystical world of the Drykans, it hadn't even crossed his mind not even once today, and it would have been a quite hard task to do so given as how there currently was no space in his mind. Awkwardly frowning, he leaned his head on the left side of the open window, and kept staring into the furthest point his sight could reach, as he wondered what his mysterious brunette was doing, where he was, whether … perhaps … even if just little … he was thinking of him, and that thought, made his face suddenly burst into heat, as he instantly move out of the window with the illogical fear the he could have been seen by the brunette

-Aah … this is not good, it is not good at all ...- he whispered to himself sitting on his bed, and rubbing his face into his hands, after which he reached for his bag and took out the novel he was reading, and decided to find out about Sareeyee after all. However, low and behold, he as soon as he found himself having to re-read the sentence he just read twice, which had never happened in his entire existence, he closed the book, and decided on doing maybe homework, which he however quickly remembered to be M&S, thus, he quickly gave up on that idea as well.

Why hadn't he waited? At least just to get his name.

He regretted that so much right now, and there was nothing he could do about it at the moment either. Getting all frustrated was no use either, but he couldn't help it, because his heart felt unusually heavy and simply weird, which he just didn’t know how to handle. However, not all was to be deemed as forlorn, for he still could hope that the brunette would show up tomorrow, same time, same place. Even though something was telling him that doing so, hanging on to hopes like he was, would only bring even greater disappointment, he found himself wanting to hang even tighter.

-This is … really … really … not good- he sighed once more, as he absently stared out of the window, wondering if he could get his mind to concentrate on something else that was different from wonderfully looking silky black hair, enthralling smile, and he didn't get to touch him in the proper sense of the word, but from the clash they had, god there was some divine body underneath all that black. Not to talk about the mixed scent of cologne and tobacco that the brunette gave off, two odors he very much hated and that had been very much stuck in his nostrils since their encounter this morning. Oh he hated those two odors, immensely, because of the memories associated to them, yet, at the moment, cologne and tobacco suddenly didn't seem to smell as hideous as he'd remembered, in fact at the moment, their scent was kinda delicate, almost sweet, almost like the scent of cherry blossoms - … maybe I should get ready … yeah ... - he lowly mumbled walking towards his wardrobe -… I'll do that ...-

Perhaps …

This wasn't exactly the most sensible or even effective way to get around this particular situation. His common sense was politely whispering to the now somewhat attentive cells, in his not so often used brain, that it was an absolutely dumb, glaringly pointless, and in someways, rather distasteful idea to proceed with doing what he was about to. And he wouldn't have minded listening to his common sense over his instincts, which were in constant disagreement, if it weren't for the quite innervating fact that his common sense had always been either so frighteningly wrong, or impressively right.

For instance, the time it seemed a very bad idea to become the manager of a band, his common sense had obviously been wrong and his instincts had been dead on. Whereas, the time it seemed like a very bad idea to mess around with Olivia, well, if he remembered correctly, he'd paid no attention to either his common sense, which was yelling No! or his instincts, which, with the chilling calm of a boss from the Italian Mafia, suggested May not be wise man, just saying. Instead, he'd gone hand-in-hand with impulse, which ... well yeah. Perhaps, it was about that time to admit that he really never gave any critical thought about consequences when it came to relationships, he was more or less like a kid whom just couldn't wait to dive into his box of candy, and never bothered to think that eating so much of it all at once could be hurtful in many ways; even after been told so many times.

Thus, Yuu was wondering whether it were right to assume that he was supposed to follow his common sense when it came to love matters, and go against it for all the rest, meaning that at the very moment he was supposed to ignore the red flags that were frantically waving in his head, telling him that what he was about to do was a very bad idea, to just turn around, and go back home. His instincts were hinting that it might not have been as bad, but the fact was that, the more he thought about it, the more it did indeed seemed pretty obvious that showing up at the opening of Kurayami no Hikari, which was a night-club supposed to be the new sensation of the year in Shinjuku, where Furashu was supposed to have performed as main act ... wasn't such a classy idea

-Just because she left doesn't mean that Furashu is done for … nope … it doesn't at all … no ...- he hissed under his breath trying to sound as convincing as possible to his brain and heart, as he stood some feet away from the night-club, in front of which the line of people whom were waiting to get in seemed to have no end -... I mean what’s the worse that could happen? ... everybody knows already … so … I mean … seriously ...- he kept whispering to himself

But seriously, what was the worst that could have happen with his appearance? After the quite noisy recent events, people wouldn't really be expecting to see Furashu perform would they? No. Knowing the sadistic nature of human beings, Yuu could only conclude that all the flowing people were there to witness, as usual, just how deep into shit other people could get themselves into. Looking for entertainment into other people's problems; that was the most profitable showbiz. Perhaps reason why, the club hadn't hassle to erase Furashu from the least of guests, while managing to find a new opening act.

-Oh I hate you so fucking much right now … such a bitch … you little fucking bitch - he kept muttering to himself, finally relishing in the twisted pleasurable sensation that slandering his ex- lover, slash ex-band member was currently giving him, since he'd managed not to call her for today, and most likely bash the hell out of her with graver insults. It wasn't like she would have answered anyways, but still doing this -... daughter of an even greater bitch, you whore … - made him feel somewhat victorious in a very petty and shameful way

As he walked towards the club standing tall, with both his hands deep in his expensive black shirtless tux, he walked into the V.I.P. lane, which was currently empty, and tried his best to ignore all the people in the regular lane entrance, and those on the side of the street, whom probably couldn't afford the ticket, and whom weren't making too much of an effort in trying to hide their shock in seeing him walk up. Even the usher at the entrance of the club seemed rather uncomfortable, as the shade of read over her cheeks seemed to proportionally increase as Yuu got closer, which he highly doubted had anything to do with his strikingly handsome features; perhaps, he wasn't the most modest of people when it came to his own physical appearance, but lying about it, in his opinion, was just as bad. But that wasn't the point right now.

As he kept peering around with the tail of his eye, that uncomfortable feeling started creeping up on him again. That feeling of wanting to blast every living thing in a 1 mile radius. That knowingly disgusting feeling of misanthropy. In moment like this, which in the recent years seemed to become more frequent, he found himself not being tolerant of the same beings he once worked so hard for in create music. There was a time in which he wanted the whole world to listen to what he had to say through his composition, he wanted for his name to be on every ones lips, he wanted to have a place in history. Yet, as he advanced in this ever-bewildering career he just couldn't help but understand said world less and less. And his constant romantic attempts might have been his way of giving this world an opportunity, a way to show that love did finally conquered all. However, so far, it perhaps only served to strengthened his pseudo-misanthropy and wonder why he even ever tried.

Did he want out? In all honesty, with all the shit that he was smelling ahead, he wouldn't have minded. However, music was truly all he had. No school degree, no other competency, nothing, and this little big detail, Olivia ought to have known. She should have understood very darn well that if Furashu really were to be no more, he was over, which made him wonder how could shit like this not make anybody want to hate humanity? Though, it was true that Yuu could always choose to believe that she hadn't truly thought over the consequences of her actions, but try as he might, there was no way that such an action had been taken with no harm meant, no matter how childish it actually was.

So much for being an adult, he thought, and in doing so, he slightly smirking, as one of the many discussions he'd had with Omi about how immature he was, brought up a particular explanation regarding humans and adulthood. According to Omi, from the day human beings were born, they struggled sufficiently hard to walk up an extremely steep path headed away from childishness and culminating in adulthood, which was reached somewhere along the last years of ones teenage years. Then, from there, there was an almost steep-less path, in which people began to walk down the road, that slowly would turn into a decent newly in the direction of childhood, basically; you got more childish, the older you got. At least so she believed, and, as he carefully thought about it at the moment, she might have been right.

-Shi-shiroyama-san … g-good evening … - shyly stuttered the young woman, whom was nervously standing in the middle of four bouncers, observing Yuu's arrival looking still rather baffled no matter how hard she was in fact trying to hide it, which made the brunette think that there really was something else other than simple gossip that was actually going on, that obviously involved him, and the fact that he didn't know; he wasn't liking at all. Stopping in front of her, Yuu calmly took a look around, just to find people still excitedly whispering in astonishment - p-please this wa- was about to say the woman, before being rather nonchalantly interrupted by the brunette

-Excuse me but … is there maybe ...something on my face? ...- he lightly laughed, receiving a rather nervous laughter in reply form the young girl, whom at least seemed to have picked up on the joke -... I know I am probably part of the news of the day … but … I don't quite get all the excitement … is like they really weren't expecting me to be here ...- he observed, talking to the girl, who merely stood and nodded at each of his words -... it's like … I don't know … I probably don't even want to know, do I miss?- he politely smiled at the girl, whom hesitantly replied with some sort of light grin, and an apologetic expression even though they both knew she had nothing to do with what was casing the public's turmoil -... So … who is performing anyways? … - Yuu calmly asked, as he suddenly bumped into the usher's back, whom had suddenly stopped, and turned around to palely stare at the manger flabbergasted

-Y-y-you do not know, who will perform here t-t-tonight? ...- she almost frighteningly stuttered, still very shockingly staring at the brunette, who gave a very quizzical look, truly ignoring the later deemed obvious possibility

The usher, darted her eyes to her fit, and as if in meditating whether to say anything at all, she remained silent for a minute or two, then, hesitantly looking up at Yuu, whom made a face that seemed to want to encourage the younger to speak, he waited, and welcomed the sound of name he wanted not the here if not preceded or followed by the word bitch, or the sentence unfortunately hit by a car, while running away from a rabid dog, barefooted, on burning wood -Olivia ... Luftkin … -

-Oh ...- was all that dryly and lowly came out from the slightly parted lips, of a now very apathetic looking Yuu, whom couldn't believe it hadn't thought of such a possibility; quite the amateur mistake -... sure ...right ...of course ...- he then kept breathing out as if talking to himself, as he kept following the woman, whom after having revealed the name of the clubs new main act, had deeply bowed, and proceeded into taking the brunette to his private room

-We have arrived, this is your VIP-room, Ace of Spades number 1...- solemnly announced the younger usher -... as you can see Shiroyama-san, this room has a maximum capacity of ten people, the walls are all sound proof form the outside, but hidden in a location I am not allowed to reveal, there is a microphone which, as a policy of our club, we have in every of our 52 VIP rooms, and is connected with the surveillance zone of our club just in case of emergency. Naturally, all the conversations held in this room will remain confidential, but they may be subjected to scrutiny in the eventuality of any legal situation ... - politely continued the young lady, as the brunette merely shook his head at random intervals and speeds - the glass-wall in front of us, will allow you a better a complete vie of the club, and the st-stage ...- suddenly stuttered and stopped the younger, perhaps realizing what having a perfect view of the stage meant for the brunette in this particular occasion - … f-from the outside however, people will only see a mirror-wall ...- she explained, as Yuu absently dropped himself into one of the couches -... in case of any other request, or desired service please press the button on this wall, I shall now take my leav-no! ... I almost forgot ...- she then quickly jolted up from her polite bowed posture -... I do not know why but I keep forgetting to explain this important part, so I apologize ...- she newly bowed, at which however the brunette had no reaction -as ... you might have noticed while we walked here, all the doors of the VIP-rooms all either have an ace of hearts, or ace of spades alternating ...- she quickly expressed, at which Yuu merely nodded as he absently looked in her direction -... the way you would be able to recognize your room is by looking on the top of the room's door handle, the number is craved on its metal, and the numbers are also, not in order, thus counting doors would be futile … - informed the usher, almost sounding apologetic -... the designer of Kurayami no Hikari, chose a theme of “homogeneity and illusion” I believe, thus at first glance it will seem like there are no numbers on any of this VIP rooms and … it might get confusing, but all that needs to be done, is to get closer to the handle, and read above it … any questions? - she then concluded, at which Yuu, silently shook his head, allowing the young lady to newly bow and finally exit the room, leaving the brunette truly having acknowledged not a single word the assistant had professed after the word “Luftkin”.

In a matter of minutes, Yuu would have been able to clearly witness as Olivia solely took the stage, and began her act, in an even bigger act which the brunette so liked to also call his life, in which currently, Olivia was the queen of the world, people were the insatiable kings, and he himself was the village fool, who made everyone laugh but himself, knowing that to be the only way he could save his neck form being severed.

-Oh but I'll laugh … - lowly professed Yuu, as he intently kept dazing at the currently empty stage -... I am the fool right? So I'll make the jokes, you all laugh now, laugh until you can … but I guarantee you now, that I will have the last laugh ...- kept hissing the brunette to himself, while he folded his hands in front of his mouth in a deeply contemplative pose, as he kept his gaze unwavering on that still empty stage -... I'll have that fucking last laugh, watch me as I pee on myself laughing, just fucking watch me ...-

★☆ ★~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ ★☆ ★

-Now what?now what?now what?now what? ...- kept quickly repeating Kazuki, in a desperate low mantra, while frantically darting his eyes from ace of hearts, to ace of spades, to ace of hearts, to freaking ace of spades! They were so many, they were all hearts and spades, and there were no numbers! He knew he should have listened to the lady as they were ushered into they VIP-room, but he was at the moment too busy regretting all the things he could have done, instead of for example having chose to go to the bathroom without making sure exactly in what room he had been, and now standing in a semi-lit corridor, no cell phone, no fucking clue.

All he remembered, was that the rooms weren't in order, and that they were Ace of Heats number 1, two piece of information that were at the moment as useful as a sumo wrestler punching him in his face , even though it was true that now all he had to do was exclude all the twenty-six rooms with and ace of spades on it -The fuck, the fuck does doors with hidden numbers in a no-light environment, the fuck is wrong with people! ...- he angrily hissed to himself, looking towards the direction of the main entrance, where he could have easily gone back to ask for the number, but where, undressed of his hat and coat as he was, he wouldn't have been able to go without risking any daring photographer in search of sensational scoops, given that the only reason why he and Jin were in that place as fifteen year-old teens, was because of his father, and needless to say, their being there as fifteen year-old teens, was completely against the law, another reason why he so didn't want to be there; he really hoped Jin thoroughly understood just how much he meant to him.

Even if the now elder blond were to know just how much he meant to him, at the moment, Kazuki was sure he probably wouldn’t have cared in the least, because at the moment, Kazuki was pretty sure that Jin was somewhere roughly positioned in-between their room's red leather couch and Yuuto, doing only god knew what, and most certainly not missing him at all. Still he needed to get back in, silently suffer the obscenity of his friends, but away from danger.

-Okay … relax …- he whispered to himself, also taking a big slow breath ...- we were somewhere … in the middle … I ... think … - he professed, as he walked towards said middle of the corridor -... definitely on this side of the wall … - he newly whispered turning to ward the right wall -... great thirty-nine down, thirteen to go ...- he sarcastically mumbled as he darted his eyes over two particular doors with aces of hearts on it, while standing put in front of one with an ace of spades on it -... I could … just … keep opening doors and apologize to people ...- he finally sighed while observing those two doors, when all of a sudden the ace of spades door, suddenly opened, perfectly hitting him on his face -Itta~! - he loudly grumbled in his hands which were tightly holding his nose, as he felt a pair of hands reaching for his wrists

-Oh shit! I am so sorry, I … shit … are you okay?!- stated the voice belonging to said hand, at which Kazuki angrily sighed, and lightly but quickly lifting his gaze, he was about to annoyingly state that he was okay but as a result of what his eyes welcomed, his entire body seemed to freeze -... are you okay? Are you bleeding? … let me see … - was so cautiously and kindly inquiring the one and only brunette his mind had been filled with thoughts of during the entire day; really? Slowly dropping his hands from the face that Jin took upon himself to touch up, he stood silent, and staring at the brunette, whom instead stayed leaned in front of him, silent and blinking -... you … you … - kept professing the brunette in a seemingly enchanted whisper - …. you are the one I met I met this morning … - he stated as if having a hard time to believe it as well, as Kazuki mange to slowly nod in response - … damn, it seems like I am good at is hitting you uh? ...- laughingly stated the elder, at which the younger shyly smiled, while linger in his state of almost veneration silence -... need to be careful, next time we might I might send you to the hospital … - he joked, as Kazuki frantically tried to find something to say his name idiot, ask him for his name, but that is kinda creepy to ask of all of a sudden, but then if I don't I'll regret it even more, but how do I ask him, god what do I do?!?!? -... were you … going to a room? ... - suddenly inquired the brunette braking their silence

-Y-yes … but ...- he stuttered and quickly paused, mentally calculating how stupid he would have sounded by telling him that he had no idea were his room was

-But ... I blasted my door on you, yeah ... I tell you, putting number on-top of door handles, the hell is wrong with people nowadays? You have to be right in front of the door to see the number, so they should have envisioned something like this happening … - resignedly stated the brunette, at which Kazuki slightly smiled, while internally rejoicing for having somehow managed to save his face -... well I guess … I'll leave you go to your room then … - he then dragged out, as he dumbly nodded his hide, while Kazuki's mind was screaming something on the lines of No!no!no!no!no!no!no!no!no!no!no!no!no!

-Well they are probably really busy anyways ...- he rapidly blurted out, leaving himself extremely shocked for having been able to talk, let alone say something like that

-Are you here with friends? ...- smiled the elder, at which the blond resolved to newly just silently nod -... and let me guess, by the look on your face when you said that, they are a couple and … you are like kind of the third beautiful wheel? - suggested the brunette, at which Kazuki merely nodded, while turning bright read at the beautiful reference that the brunette had just made -... well I was sorta about to go home, but … if you want … I mean .. I am not a creeper or anything but I am all alone and I could use some company and … that … just sounded very creepy I bet …- he then chuckled at the end of his request, making Kazuki giggle -... but as they said there are microphones or something, so if anything happens, just scream the hell out of you, and they'll come and get me? … does that sound any better? - newly attempted the brunette, shaking his head in a sort of confused amusement while smiling

-No ...- sincerely giggled Kazuki -... but ...- he then hesitantly added, as he lingered in the sudden scent of cherry blossoms he seemed to be sensing from the elder -... I'd like to come in ...- he shyly stated, looking away from the elder, with his heart beating at an incredibly dangerous his speed

-And I'd be honored ...- stated the elder, bowing and holding the door opened -... after you - he invited the younger, at which Kazuki nodded, and followed, while the elder closed the door behind them.

Thus Kazuki still didn't find his room, and was currently in the company of his resolved to be first crush, which was sort of a mysteriously weird but amazingly gratifying situation to be in, making it all look very much stranger than fiction. But, he wasn't complaining, was he?No, not a single bit, everything was simply perfect, well maybe ... there was just one thing he should quickly take care of … -M-my name is Kazuki … and yours? ...-
