1) Look at the list and bold those you have read.
2) Italicise those you intend to read.
3) Underline the books you LOVE.
4) Reprint this list in your own LJ so we can try and track down these people who've read 6 and force books upon them.

1. Pride and Prejudice - Jane Austen
2. The Lord of the Rings - JRR Tolkien
3. Jane Eyre - Charlotte Bronte
4. ( Read more... )

Well, you've read the important one ;), but you must read ALL of Jane Austen's novels, particularly Persuasion, which is my second favorite, and Emma.

I've only read 1/4 of these. That's sad. I realized that I need to read less fluff and more of the classics because sometimes I get overwhelmed (like Rory on Gilmore Girls - not sure if you ever saw that show - when she sees the Harvard library) that there are too many books and not enough time.

But, my advice? DON'T read Love in the Time of Cholera. It's so tedious and boring that it took me forever to read it and I complained the whole way through. Unfortunately it's part of my obsessive disorder that I must finish every book I start.

Hehehe. I used to WORK in Widener, Harvard's flasgship library. I'd spend my lunch hours up in the stacks, which were full of first editions of the most amazing books. They kept the place climate controlled. Awesome.

That is awesome. I'm jealous. I would've loved to work in a library. I was fascinated with the university library when I was in college. I loved how the rows were so close together and you were literally surrounded by books.

Yeah, it's like being in a book Wonderland. I'm a book geek, so working at one the world's ultimate libraries was awesome. I also visited the other Harvard libraries pretty often -- they had one devoted to maps, one devoted to rare books, etc. And they were all amazing.

The funny thing about Widener is that, because it's one of the main buildings making up Harvard Yard, we were constantly overrun with excited tourists who tried to sneak in, but were turned away by security... lol.

It's scary how little I've read from the list, how lttle I read ever since I'm done with school, and the scariest part is that with some titles I don't remember if I read them or only intended to. But even with all that... I don't think that many books appeal to on the list. I know they're classics but I also know how I suffered through some classics at school.

I enjoyed "Love in th Time of Cholera" though. It's a bit odd and there's hardly any dialogue which makes it harder to read concentrate on the story, but it was worth it. Of course if you're like Tiff and mustfinish every started book, then don't go there, it's a thick volume so if you don't like it, lots of suffering. :)

I don't feel the need to finish every book, so I'm off the hook, whew. :) I think most people read a lot less than they did 30 years ago and that's a problem, so I will try to absorb a few more books this year.

So you love them all? :p

I've become realistic as well. I really haven't been reading anything for months until the other day when I decided to finish The Fountainhead and with no internet to speak of, it was manageable.

Hm. I think I might do this again. I think there were different books in the other meme.

WTF? LJ is so weird. They weren't all underlined at first, then they were, so now I've fixed it.

I'm going to try to finish The Odyssey next, since I was halfway thru and it's so pertinent to Lost.
