Title: The Street Fair
Rating: G
Possible Spoilers/Warnings: None, but Luna/Pansy (e.i. slash)
Summary: Luna wants to surprise Pansy.
Author’s Notes: I hope you like it, and it lives up to any expectations you may have. Sadly, I cannot write in present tense at all. So I'm sorry for not being able to fulfill that request.
Original Prompt:
Briefly describe what you want: Pansy/Luna, Harry/Luna, Ron/Luna, or Dean/Luna, in some sort of conceivable situation. AN UNUSUAL EVENT! (Maybe even a ridiculous one, knowing Luna.) :D I'd like something that is more plot-based than character-based.
Tone of the fic: Humorous! (But not crack.)
An element/line of dialogue/object you would like in your fic: if possible, I'd like for it to be told in present-tense. But if not, that's perfectly fine.
Preferred rating of the the fic you want: G to PG-13
Canon or AU? Canon, unless you wish to disregard the seventh book
Deal Breakers (what don't you want?): swearing, smoking, drinking, drugs, sex (or any references to it). OOCness. Too much fluff, too much angst. A lack of creativity. Weddings. A sad ending. First- or second-person POV

Grabbing the flier off the table she was sitting at, Luna Lovegood sighed. The flier looked fabulous.

Thinking of how Muggle the street fair sounded, Luna knew Pansy would never go for it. Her girlfriend had come a long way from her days in Slytherin and using Draco Malfoy as a nice smokescreen, but she hadn't come that fair. But maybe Luna could trick her to coming along. Pansy did have a sense of humor and barely noticed things like fliers. She probably didn't know Hogsmeade Village would be turning into a street fair that weekend.

Picturing her girlfriend laughing and enjoying herself in the midst of the fun and air of a fair, Luna smiled. The image was gorgeous. Pansy was gorgeous when she just let herself go. Screwing her face in thought, she tried to think of an excuse to go to Hogsmeade on a Friday night when they normally stayed at home together. They have moved in with each other in a flat in Muggle London two months ago, and since then they have developed their own little rituals for most nights. But the rituals were easy broken to have some fun and spontaneity in their life.

Luna was getting restless, too. Pansy was the time to like getting into a routine and sticking to it, but Luna thrived on change and impulsiveness. She had been missing that in her life during the past two months. The first year of their relationship had been amazing with quiet rendezvous, impulsive trips to foreign countries, and lots of laughter and sex.

They still had the sex, of course, but still, they're sex had become as predictable as the rest of their lives. Dragging Pansy to a street fair just might be what they needed to get their relationship back on track.

She let the flier drift from her fingers, floating onto the table, and pondered her options. Wanting to go this fair wouldn't be enough to convince her girlfriend to accompany her. But Luna quickly thought of a plan.

---

Luna opened the door to her flat and was greeted by darkness. Pansy was obviously still out. Perhaps at work or perhaps getting a drink at her favorite pub, the Leaky Cauldron. Luna had only stopped by the Three Broomsticks on her way back from the pet shop in Hogsmeade. The flier had been there waiting for her, but she'd left it there since she wasn't going to risk Pansy finding the flier before the Friday night and putting a wrench in Luna's plans.

Flipping on the light, she headed for the bedroom to grab clean clothes. She wanted to shower before Pansy came home. Showers alone in an empty flat was always more relaxing. Pansy had the nice habit and joining Luna without permission. Not that Luna minded, of course; she loved seeing Pansy wet and naked. It was an arousing sight.

But tonight, she wanted time to think. Her plan for tricking Pansy wasn't perfect yet. Carrying her clean clothes to the restroom beside the bedroom, she quickly stripped and started her shower. She jumped in and under the icy spray of water before she adjusted the temperature. Pansy thought she was strange for liking the cold jolt when she first got in. Pansy always adjusted the temperature while she was still out of the shower, and Luna thought that was strange.

When she climbed out of the shower twenty minutes later, Luna felt relieved. Her plan was easy to set in motion and easier to execute.

Pansy arrived home two hours later, looking flustered and tired. Luna was sitting on the couch reading The Quibbler when her girlfriend came in, but stood up the moments she heard Pansy twist the knob on the door. She had been listening closely for the tall tale sign and walked over to her girlfriend to greet her with a hug and a kiss. She wrapped her arms around Pansy's back and the girl buried her face in Luna's hair. "Long day, love?" Luna asked, already knowing the answer.

"Merlin, yes," Pansy said in an exhausted whisper.

Luna smiled. It would easier than she thought. "Come on. Let's go get you a shower and then lay down together."

"Please," Pansy agreed with a tired smile. She kissed Luna's neck before pulling away. "I do want to shower alone, though," she added as if Luna was the one always joining the other in shower uninvited. Luna steered her girlfriend toward the loo and left her at the door, ducking in their bedroom to grab Pansy some clothes. When she came out Pansy was already inside the loo, undressing.

Luna stood at the door for a moment, admiring her girlfriend from behind. She had a defined curves and a small waist that Luna knew flattered her breasts when viewed from the front. Her medium length brown hair was cascading down her back, wavy and thick.

Clearing her throat, Luna said, "Here you go." She put the clothes on the counter beside the sink and Pansy turned around.

"Thanks, love," she said with a smile. For some reason she looked less tired all the sudden.

The blond backed away slowly, leaving her girlfriend alone, as she shut the door softly. Pansy was in the shower a good twenty minutes before Luna heard the door open. Lounging on the bed, Luna called, "Pansy! I'm in the bedroom."

The brunette came to the door and stopped. She was wearing a night gown and her brown hair was soaking wet still. Luna patted beside her, and Pansy finished entering the room and crawled into bed beside her girlfriend, laying her head on Luna's shoulder. "Thanks, Luna. This is just what I needed."

Luna wrapped her arm around Pansy's shoulder and sighed happily. "I have red wine, too."

"Mmm," Pansy murmured in acknowledgement.

Turning her head slightly, Luna kissed Pansy's forehead. Her girlfriend was clearly exhausted and falling asleep already.

---

Pansy was sitting in the living room when Luna came home from work the next day. "Hi, babe," Pansy greeted her, grinning at her. She was much livelier than she had been the night before when she got home. "How was work?"

"Nice. How was your day?" Luna asked, hanging her cloak up on the rack and smiling.

"Lovely. The drama from yesterday was already over by the time I got there!" Pansy grinned. Her girlfriend wasn't a slacker, but working as an undersecretary for the Minister of Magic himself sometimes took its toll on her.

"It's Friday night," Luna reminded her girlfriend with a grin. "I was thinking we could go out."

"Go out? Why?"

"Why not?" Luna retorted in her patented dreamily voice.

"Well, we don't normally go out on Fridays," Pansy said, tilting her head to the side.

"And why not?"

Pansy shrugged.

Reaching out, Luna pulled her girlfriend to her feet and wrapped her arms around her back. "Come to the Three Broomsticks with me. It'll be fun."

Pansy raised her eyebrows in response but shrugged again. "Sure."

Luna couldn't believe how easily Pansy was giving in. She wasn't arguing about routine, complaining about being tired, or declaring she wanted time alone with Luna. Feeling relieved, yet slightly suspicious, Luna grinned at her. "Brilliant!"

---

Two hours later, Pansy and Luna were walking down the main street of Hogsmeade village, holding hands. Luna's girlfriend wasn't saying anything, just looking around at the sight without an expression. That's a bad sign, Luna thought. If Pansy was angry, she could soothe her anger, but nothing? Nothing was bad.

The street was lined with game booths, vendors, and classic rides. Luna couldn't wait to go to the House of Mirrors that she saw in the distance. It looked inviting, and she'd never been in one before. The crowd was lively and loud, and Luna just felt like immerse herself in the atmosphere.

Pansy squeezed Luna's hand. "Come on the Three Broomsticks is just at the end of the street."

The blond stopped, halting Pansy. "I want to ride. And play the games. And buy food from the vendors," she stated as a matter of a fact.

The brunette just grinned. "Come on!" She tugged her girlfriend down the street, and pulling her through the crowd. Luna felt annoyed that Pansy was ignoring her request, but she let her girlfriend pull her along. The brunette pushed open the door of the pub, and swung around to face Luna properly, throwing her arms out.

The pub was full of Luna's friends and even her father. "What?" Luna breathed, looking around. Everyone was laughing and smiling at her, like she just got included in a joke she didn't understand.

"The street fair is for you. I was talking to Neville the other day and he said you were fascinated by those things," Pansy said, draping her arm around Luna's shoulders. "And it's your birthday… that you've forgotten by the way. I worked my arse off for a month to set this up."

Luna looked around again at her friends and then turned to Pansy. "Seriously?"

"Yes. I'm getting bored with staying home and all this… routine. It was much better when we were impulsive," Pansy stated.

"I'm rubbing off on you, aren't I?" Luna said with a grin. Pansy used to thrive in routine and now she was bored with it.

"Of course you are. In fact, the other day I found myself thinking that Crumple-Horned Snorlacks were located in the forest. It was very put off, let me tell you."

Luna laughed in a dreamily tone. "Come on, I want to go explore the House of Mirrors!"

"Wait!" Pansy called, grabbing Luna's hand and pulling her back. "First, there's a birthday cake and then presents. And what about all these people that came to see you?"

The blond screwed up her face in thought. "You know, I'd much prefer to go to the House of Mirrors, and then come back and have my cake and visit with my friends!"

"Why? What's so great about the House of Mirrors?"

"It's just… fabulous and interesting. I think it should be entertaining. I've always wanted to go to a House of Mirrors!"

Pansy sighed, smiling softly. "Fine. It's your day."

The crowd of friends and family didn't seem to mind as the girls left the pub, and walked to the House of Mirrors. They seemed to understand that it was just the way Luna was, and it meant nothing about what their gathering together meant to her.
