...Phew, calming down this week. This week's Daiya thoughts?
This week's Daiya...
Daiya no Ace 2nd Season, episode 35
Finally, after a grueling game which involves Sawamura standing firm after he gave up a 2-point homerun, Miyuki getting a bodyslam during a crossplay against Seiko's Ogawa, Seido won after Miyuki hits a sayonara home run in the first tiebreaker extra inning! :D
I don't wish to spoil things out, but Miyuki finds himself getting into a pinch because his abdomen hurts when he takes off his catcher gear. It's bad when the team has just qualified for the finals, but worse is... the finals is tomorrow. And they still have no idea who they're going against: Ichidai San? Or worst matchup of all... Yakushi?
I want to compliment while at the same time mildly intrigued with Sawamura's actions while they are in the dugout:
Miyuki: By the way, have you done cooling down? Eijun: Nope, haven't started yet! Miyuki: Then do it!
We can see that Sawamura is being his sweet little self, but there are... some... things that bother me a little.
First: the fact that he treats Miyuki politely; and Second: the fact that he specifically mentions "amino acids" as he offers Miyuki a drink
The events above, with my personal thoughts below, are going to clash with the future events which I won't disclose yet, but why not have fun speculating some things?
Okay, we all know how Sawamura is in the dugout. He's usually nice, sometimes seeking praises (a.k.a. being self-centered), sometimes he banters with people e.g. Miyuki. In this match he uses keigo so yeah, maybe he's in a good mood. Or maybe he wants to do anything for the sake of his team. I don't know what exactly is missing here, but... is it just me or doesn't it feel weird to see Sawamura actually being kind to Miyuki? xD /shot
And then the mention of amino acids. Amino acids are essential for tissue regeneration and body recovery. This is common knowledge. Sawamura probably knows this since he's a sportsman.
But!
Most of the time when Sawamura offers his teammates drink, he never says what's in the drink. He just goes, "Here, have a drink!" Being not a sports person myself, I don't even know what kind of drink he gives to his teammates. At best, maybe some isotonic drink? Wait, do sportsmen actually drink isotonic?
[Spoiler for future plots (clickity-click, once you click you can never unclick)]And then in the finals, there are instances where Sawamura nonchalantly tells Miyuki not to keep the burden as a captain by himself, and also the time when nearly the entire team learn of Miyuki's injury. Sawamura actually tries to cover for Miyuki's somewhat bad performance, saying that "he might have a bad day" or "he's just being in a slump". It's like Sawamura trusts that Miyuki is fine even though the collision against Ogawa is really bad, because Miyuki doesn't say anything about it.
So. My question is: Is Sawamura really being his clueless self? Or, does he actually have an idea what's going on but chooses to respect Miyuki's privacy and treats Miyuki like usual?
Hmm. Never mind me. This is a brainless ramble on my part.
Daiya no Ace Act II, chapter 15
Thanks to Jisho.org for the meaning of most words.
The title of this chapter is "First Meeting." (But we already have "meeting" as one of the titles, and the next meaning in line is "first contest between", so we'll go for "First Face-off".) It describes the next match perfectly: the face-off between Inashiro Vocational and Yakushi High.
...then what happened in the supposed Yakushi vs Inashiro in Senbatsu? (I'm thinking it's a translation error because Inajitsu lost to Ugumori in Fall Tournament, so Inajitsu shouldn't have any qualification to join the Senbatsu.)
Okay, we start the chapter with a break after the Seido vs Eigen; Seido won a called game with 11-1. In Seido's changing room we see Miyuki nagging at Eijun for reasons I'm yet to fathom, I think he's nagging because Eijun wears a face commonly related to one being scolded - all sweaty and pout and no talk.
Outside, the Seido 1st years are talking about the match overall and Koushuu talks specifically about Sawamura: "In the end he doesn't even pitch his winning shot, the changeup. All of them are fastballs."
...ah. So that's why Miyuki is angry. Eijun, being his idiotic self, actually pitches all fastballs when he's supposed to find a style utilizing his winning shot. He really doesn't want to lose to Furuya, does he...
Koushuu also talks about Sawamura's pitching statistics in the game: 11 pitch to the inside, 3 balls, 2 foul balls, 6 strikeouts (batters swung but gets striked). At least that's what it means.
Asada? Well, he realizes for the first time that "this roommate of his" is actually a good pitcher and is not all talk. Masashi is fired up.
Other games: Akikawa 2 - 9 Minamidai (called game after 7th inning). Akikawa lost its pitching power because You Shunshin is no longer eligible for any future high school matches, including Koshien. Look at him standing at the side like a statue. /pats Shunshin's back
Ichidai San 11 - 0 Kawamura (called game after 5th inning).
April 7th, the most anticipated face-off between Inashiro Vocational vs. Yakushi High. Those who are into Yakushi are all Sanada and Raichi's fangirls? and fanboys. Among the new face here are Taniguhi Shou, Kuroki Daigo, Tomobe Sakito (an ero novel fan), Hayakawa Taiga (a guy who cries for whatever reason, maybe he got dumped?).
In Inashiro side, we get Akamatsu Shinji (Headpones-kun, the tallest among 1st years), Mitsuishi Youji, Yoshizawa Akimitsu, Shima Ryouhei. Mei is staring at Yakushi's batters Raichi and Mishima, with this very menacing eyes. This is the battle between Tokyo's best pitcher and best batter. I really want to know how will the game turn out, but most importantly, has Mei overcome his personal slump after the crushing defeat to Ugumori? (And are we going to get a rematch? lol)
