Late night speculations

Yeah, I've kept saying it. A real post is still in the works. Frankly, I have something rather emo and personal I do have to get out here eventually, but as I'm just thinking about this now, I wanted to post it here:

So it's nearly 5 AM, and I'm laying out various items I'll need tomorrow. For example: my Hogwarts: A History, Prefect and Head Girl ( Read more... )

Anyone else have a costume just like this? Or one character just like this, that they feel just completely at ease and happy in? Do you know why?

Definitely. When I don the Malfoy robes, I am home. The HP world mirrors My own upbringing at boarding school (with a music bent rather than magic), and those eeeevil wizard robes just fit. I don't even have to do much other than lots of hair products.

I feel that way in my Al costume for a lot of the same resons. He is my favorite character for many reasons and I feel so natural when I wear the costume - like I don't have to try very hard to feel relaxed. (Although I must admit that wearing slightly-baggy pants and a long sleeve shirt has a lot to do with it. It's a nice change from the typical, "Oh my god, I hope I don't flash everyone!")
However, I completely agree with you about feeling comfortable in Hermione. I certainly don't relate to her very much as a character (I'm much more of a Ron :D) but, for me, its the overall LOVE of the series that makes the costume so special.
Gaaaah I can't believe the movie is tonight. *_*

I first thought was to answer Naru, but that's not exactly right since even though I love the character and don't plan on stopping cosplaying her for quite a long time, I don't get the same feeling I get as when I wear Alice. Sure, I nitpick at Alice and want to remake it and sure it takes another person to get me in and out of it and sure its uncomfortable when its hot outside, but once I'm in the dress its like I'm at home. I even tried to retire the stupid thing and couldn't do it. I even get the same feeling when I think about the movie Alice costume I want to do.

I think the reason why the costume is that way to me is because I've always identified with Alice and so to dress like her is sort of the final step in totally identifing with her.

Hmmm, I definitely feel that way about my Nana O. costume, which is probably why I feel so elitist about it when I wear her. xD She is the character I identify the most with and everyone I know tells me that I really *am* Nana, so it works, I guess. ^^ Also, her outfit is a lot like my regular clothes anyway, so being Nana is basically just being myself. :]
