09:50
Woke up at 07:00 after 6 hours of decent sleep, and dozed for a while. I was asleep again when my alarm went off at 9; I had to hit snooze once, and still had trouble getting up. I put my contacts in, but didn't shower, and getting dressed took longer than usual.
I'm completely exhausted, and all I want to do is go back to bed, but I wouldn't be able to sleep. Besides, I have an appointment at 10:30 I need to leave for soon. My pain level is quite high, dragging me down even more -- all of the individual aches (like my lower back and my shoulder) are simply subsumed into the overall ache. My left foot did speak up loud enough to be heard when I got up, though both feet flexed well enough that I didn't feel like I was hobbling on two clubs.
My vision is a little less clear, and my peripheral vision is somewhat darkened, which happens when my system is overtaxed and has to start conserving energy. I'm able to hold a single train of thought for the most part, but concentration is difficult and I'm stumbling over word choices. I'll have to be careful when driving.
I was in enough pain that I actively did not want food, but I forced myself to eat an egg sandwich anyway. At least my system rarely objects once I've actually eaten something, no matter how unappealing it seems.
I have a bodywork appointment this afternoon, which means driving 40 minutes and fighting my way back from Berkeley through traffic... I really hope I find some more energy somewhere.
11:40
I drove out to Antioch (about 20 minutes) and got lost briefly. Usually I'm very good at navigating, particularly to places I've been before, but I spaced out and drove past the cross-street, then had to use Maps to figure out where I was.
I sat and talked for about 15 minutes, then drove home again. I was almost home when I realized for about the third time that I was almost out of gas -- I had thought about it last night, remembered this morning when I was driving out, and has made a note that I needed to get gas across the street when I left my appointment.... so I managed to coax the car home to my regular gas station, and put over 16 gallons in a 16-gallon tank. I'm just so fuzzy, I'm very lucky I didn't get stranded.
When I got home, I sat in the car and slipped into what I think of as "power save mode" for 20 minutes. My whole body just kind of shuts down, and I appear to be asleep, but I'm still conscious and able to follow basic trains of thought. My senses go dim, so it's like my mind is still awake while my body goes dark and silent. I've had that happen for up to an hour, and it's pretty disorienting -- a kind of sensory deprivation. I presume what's happening is my nervous system is resetting, replenishing nutrient and neurotransmitter levels which I've pushed out of balance. Whatever is actually happening, if I'm patient (I do get bored sometimes) my sensory input comes back on its own, and I'm able to move and function again.
I got myself into the house finally, and I'm thinking I should probably eat again. I don't want to get up; I just want to sit here and not think about much for a while.
20:45
I headed out to my bodywork appointment at 1:15. I hadn't eaten anything more, as I didn't have the time to rest up *and* fix food. I ate a granola bar on the way out, but it was woefully inadequate.
The trip to Berkeley took 40 minutes. After my hour-long appointment I headed almost straight home, swinging by a friend's place to fetch something before I hit the freeway. I left the bodyworker's office at 15:15, and got to the grocery store near my house at 17:00. I stopped there briefly to get groceries; as I stood looking over the shelves I could feel my legs trembling. By the time I walked back out to the car (thankfully in a handicapped stall close to the doors) I was almost too tired to walk.
I ate some cereal immediately after I got home, and spent some time on the computer, getting up periodically. I had dinner while watching TV on the computer.
I'm still exhausted, and getting more so all the time. I may go to bed fairly soon. My pain level is way down, though; my bodyworker was able to correct my right knee and ankle, reduced a lot of the pain in my lower back, and brought my upper back under control. When I left there I could feel the inflammation receding, as it usually does. The process leaves me wiped out, and I may be a little sore tomorrow. I do hope this will give me more energy over the next few days, however, as my body recovers.
