One of the patients at work has a myspace blog that got hacked yesterday and deleted. My boss, who also does myspace, says this is pretty common -- hacking to either post porn to a respectable site or to just delete stuff

Accounts getting hacked on MySpace does seem fairly common, but I think the number of hacked accounts on MySpace is higher simply because there's a vastly larger number of users. I don't know if the percentage of hacks is any higher. And I suspect most of it does have to do with easy to guess passwords.
2,000 friends is a lot for someone who isn't famous. That doesn't necessarily equate to "popular".
I think MySpace is worth doing as a marketing thing, particularly if you're not going to have an actual website. a lot of musicians these days use MySpace...check out some musicians pages for an example of how to use it as a marketing tool.
