Ema: *homework lies strewn about across Ema's computer desktop, abandoned for now as she clicks on random Livejournal screen names, taking just a bit of a break from her tedious workload. One screen name in particular catches her eye however, on Angel's friend's list, and she frowns as she reads through the entry. A cold, sinking feeling slowly forms in her stomach* L-Lana!!
Lana: *is grading some papers on the desk in her bedroom-- the door is half shut, and Ema's shouts don't immediately register. She glances up after a moment, calling out loudly enough for Ema to hear* Ema? What is it?
Ema: *the girl is dismayed for a moment that Lana didn't come running, so she scrambles up from her computer desk, sending a couple papers flittering to the ground* Lana! No, just-- come here! *flings open her bedroom door none-too-gently*
Lana: *startled at this rather unusual outburst from her sister--and the thud of the opening door--she sets her pen on her desk, gets up and walks quickly over to Ema's room. There, she heads to her sister, scanning the room--and her sister--over quickly as she does* *with a hint of bewildered anxiousness in her voice* What's the matter?
Ema: *points to her computer screen* Him. L-Lana, why is he on Ms Starr's stupid friends list? D-Did you know about that? Why does he get to use a computer anyways! He's on DEATH ROW! People there shouldn't get access to the internet! *carries on in distress, not seeming to really notice or care that Lana might not know who she's talking about*
Lana: *as Ema starts to speak, Lana puts a hand on her sister's arm to try and calm her down. As Ema continues on, though, she begins to form an idea of just who Ema is referring to, and her face turns serious, if not slightly pale. She turns to the computer screen, and looks it over* .........
Lana: ... *subconsciously, her hold on Ema tightens. After a long moment, she responds quietly* I... had heard that such a journal program for inmates had recently been put into action...
Ema: *worries at her bottom lip, brows furrowed as she watches the woman intently* ... Lana, I don't like this. I... I read the comments. Mr. Marshall and Ms Starr wrote to him. Now... he can find yours now too, can't he?
Lana: *her voice is quite devoid of emotion, much like her features* You don't need to worry about me, Ema. He doesn't have any hold on me anymore. *reaches for Ema's mouse with her free hand and closes the page, turning to her sister afterward--and finally the anxiety is evident in her eyes* Don't respond to him. Even if he writes to you. *a strain in her voice* That would just be a method of drawing you out.
Ema: *nods quickly, and looks apprehensively towards her computer screen* I... wasn't going to Lana. I swear. I won't do that.
Lana: Good. ...Good. I... *her voice catches, and instead of speaking further, she takes hold of her sister's other arm, and pulls her into a hug*
Ema: *holds on tight to the woman, eyes squeezing shut as she presses her forehead to Lana's shoulder* Lana... please-- just don't talk to him either, okay? You can't tell me not to worry about you, because... of course I'm going to. Just... don't talk to him either, alright? Promise me. *dread creeps into Ema's voice as she hugs Lana tightly, unwilling to let go yet*
Lana: *continues holding Ema tightly, but she glances off to the side at the girl's demand, as if considering--or wondering* *a little too calmly, flatly* ...I promise I won't.
Ema: ... Lana? *her frown only deepens, and she twists a bit in Lana's hold* No, you need to really promise me. I want to know you mean it Lana, o-okay?
Lana: ... *at that, she pulls back slightly to look at Ema-- a genuine, if not also slightly guilty look on her features* *softly* ...I'm sorry. Truthfully, I don't know if I could keep a promise like that.
Ema: *the girl looks almost hurt* But.... *shakes her head quickly, voice raising a touch in frustration* You don't need to anymore. There's... no point. None!
Lana: *glances off* I can think of a few. If he were to... *stops herself, shuts her eyes, and speaks more calmly once she opens again* I don't want to give you my word, and then break it... or lie to you, Ema. Not again.
Ema: *wilts visibly and looks away, holding onto the edge of her coat* .... I don't want him finding you. If... I can try to stay hidden away, why can't you?
Lana: *moves slightly, so as to face her sister again* I'm not going to seek him out. But if there's reason to respond to him, I will. If that can keep him away from you.
Ema: *shakes her head once more, looking all the more miserable by the second* ...Things... Things are going so good right now Lana. For both of us. I don't want... to let him trip it all back up.
Lana: *runs a hand down the back of Ema's head gently, following the flow of her hair* I know. And I won't let him, I promise. That, I really do promise you, Ema.
Ema: ... Alright. I believe you, Lana... *looks back up to the woman, brows still drawn in worry*
Lana: *rubs her thumb against Ema's forehead, trying to straighten out the crinkle before it's an ingrained frown. She manages a small smile*
Lana: *glancing to her sister's desk for a moment* ...Are you done your homework...?
Ema: H-Huh? *wrinkles her nose, tilting her head a bit rather than actually moving Lana's hand away* O-Oh... yeah. I mean. I'm done with everything that needs to be finished by tomorrow, at least.
Lana: Good. *cups Ema's cheek briefly* I think it'd be best for me to put marking the rest of my papers off until tomorrow... *glances towards the door of the room*
Lana: Instead of just heating up something for dinner... would you like to prepare something with me? *ponderingly* And perhaps watch one of those DVDs we haven't gotten to watching yet...
Ema: *cracks the faintest hint of a smile, and nods* Yeah... I'd like that a lot. Can we watch the whole thing though? You won't fall asleep if it gets too late, will you Lana~?
Lana: ... *scrunches up her nose in a manner surprisingly similar to how Ema did just a few moments ago* We can watch the whole thing. *a bit huffily* I'll try not to fall asleep. But... a short movie, then. Tomorrow is a school day, after all.
Ema: *laughs weakly and holds up her hands* Okay okay. Maybe we can just start playing it while we make dinner? Then maybe it won't seem so long anymore! *smiles* Sound good?
Lana: *smiles* Sounds great. *keeps an arm around Ema as she guides them over to the door and to the kitchen*
