I completely understand not wanting to make art to sell. It taints it and can easily squelch inspiration. I've come close to burn out so so many times. I have to force myself sometimes to finish orders.
But I'm also a natural at sales and marketing. For me buying, making, and selling is addictive.
I also like the feeling that my art lives in places I've never been. And I've had some amazing customers with awesome stories. (Like one of my luck dragons was burned up in a house fire the day after it arrived. The little girl was crushed but her dad assured her Falkor had flown away before the fire. When her new doll arrived she was so thrilled, I even included a letter from the dragon explaining how he escaped the fire! hah)

I'm also so stubborn and would not do well to work for someone. I have to be my own boss! I started my online selling when I was a sophomore in high school now I'm too far gone to go get a real job. ;P

oh and I agree about bartering. I LOVE TRADING more than just about any form of exchange. :)

other people do a much better job at selling then I ever could.
if someone saw something I made and wanted to buy it.. sure probably say yeah.. but me actively trying to sell something or making something specifically to sell? Yeah.. that I can't do. If I don't do it for myself, it won't happen.

to make cash, I can do most anything else. But then again, I don't need to make so much, so it doesn't really bother me.
