[It takes Prince Angst a while to even attempt to leave an encouraging message for everyone going out to fight. He knows he should, but he's so wrapped up in his own insecurities and self-doubt, he's almost surly about it. Not like he can talk to his family about it either because they're all going. Them and that jerk dragoon too ( Read more... )

[And if Ceodore sticks around at the barracks for a while, Frey will show up, dressed in his battle attire. He's been doing daily practice lately, and tends to stick to the barracks and riversides. Today he happened to head to the barracks.

He's surprised, though, to see Ceodore use a bow.] Ceodore?

[Anyone who knows his parents wouldn't be as surprised by that. It's another one of those natural talents he seems to have inherited, only in this case, from his mother. For not being his primary weapon, he's got decent aim and enough concentration to fire one more arrow and make it into the center ring before turning around.]

Hey, Frey.

[Wait. What in the world is Frey wearing?]

Uh, what's that?

[Frey notices this, and is very impressed. It's a good ability to have. Though he's wondering what Ceodore's talking about.]

What's what?

We'll be fine.

[He's pointedly ignoring the bad luck that seems to follow on these ventures.]

[Oh great. Just what he needed. A reminder he doesn't measure up.]

Yeah, I already figured that out.

[Yes, Kain can even unintentionally be a big jerk.]

You could always do something useful, and continue training while we're away.

[As if he can talk about dealing with it well, though. He practically had a meltdown at not being included on the earlier list.]

[Rydia will arrive not long after Ceodore, intent on getting in some practice of her own before the draft takes place. Upon spotting him honing his archery, however, she pauses to observe.]

[He might not be as good as his mother, but he's never quite as good as his parents at anything. However, he's far from shabby with the bow and he's got quite the earnest mindset to handle it well. In fact, he's so intent on working on his form that he doesn't even register that he's being watched.

Today's goal is to work on speed rather than accuracy, so an arrow is nocked, then in one swift move, the bow raised and string pulled. With hardly a pause to anchor the arrow for aim, he relaxes his fingers and looses the arrow, getting a pleased smile when it sticks not only in the center of the target, but mere millimeters from the one he'd fired moments ago.]

[Rydia echoes the smile as she watches Ceodore at work. No, it's not Rosa's level of marksmanship, but then archery isn't his usual focus anyway. Even so, he's quite competent and she enjoys getting the chance to observe his talent for herself.]

Nicely done, Ceodore.

[Rydia's voice comes as a surprise, as he had no idea he had an audience. His pleased smile becomes more modest and he nods his head once. He knows it was a good shot, but he's still got issues with accepting praise from other people.]

Rydia! Uh, thanks. You here to practice?

I'm sure the sentiment is appreciated nonetheless.

Huh? W-wait, no one was...

[He really thought he'd gotten this infernal book turned off and erased. PANIC!]

Uh, I- yeah, I hope so.

[Within minutes of his voice popping up in her journal, Selphie's had about enough of his angsting and is quite intent on doing something about it. She's not entirely sure what she'll do but she's going to do something because all this whining is really starting to get annoying. If he'd just stop being so bloody insecure for five minutes, maybe he'd realize that sometimes people are left behind for a reason.

So with those intentions in mind, Selphie's marching purposefully through the village with her Morning Star in tow as she starts up a Ceodore hunt.]

[Yes, but for that realization to take place, he either needs to prove himself in some grand heroic fashion or get hit upside the head with a perception bat. An angry Selphie might do the trick though.

She'll easily be able to find him in the barracks, although he's so intent on his practice, he's unaware of anyone else around. In fact, he's working on speed archery so it's one arrow after another, and for someone who normally fights with a sword, he's quite good.]

[Eventually, Selphie finds her target training in the barracks and marches right inside and lightly whacks Ceodore in the back of the head before her hands settle onto her hips and she looks up at him with a grumpy look on her face before her foots starts tapping on the floor.]

[Ceodore didn't see any of that coming, so he whips around blinking in surprise.]

Selphie?

[Oh man, what did he do this time?]
