Chapter 2

“Maru!”
Kame almost hugged him. Maru smiled.
“How have you been?” he asked as he scrutinized his young friend from top to toe.
He didn’t like what he saw. Kame seemed skinner than before and paler. He didn’t like the way Kame coughed too. How he wished he could take Kame away! But all he could do was visit his young friend secretly from time to time, bearing some food and news of Kame’s father.
“I’m fine! Really! Look!”
Kame pointed to his T-shirt.
“Koki-san gave it to me!”
Maru smiled and nodded. He knew that this was Kame’s way of trying console and allay his worries. For Kame’s sake, Nakamaru played along...like always. He held out a small bag.
“Here. I brought you some rice balls.”
Kame grinned widely as he eagerly tucked into it.
Halfway through, though he stopped.
“Is he okay?” Kame asked in a small voice. “Father?”
Nakamaru sighed and nodded.
“He’s fine. But he misses you so much. He keeps asking for you.”
Kame blinked back his tears. He missed his father too. Nakamaru patted him on his back, not knowing what to say.

Neither noticed a dark figure slipping away
>>>>>Yamapi stared out the window and sighed loudly one again. It was beginning to irritate Jin who was trying to concentrate on the business report.
“Could you stop sighing?” he requested through gritted teeth.
Jin knew from the moment Yamapi had walked into his room in the morning, that his friend wanted something from him. But he also knew that Yamapi was simply waiting for Jin to ask him what it was he exactly wanted.
Yamapi groaned and slouched into his armchair. He snuck a look at Jin who pointedly ignored him. He waited until Jin began to concentrate on the report again and just as Jin began to focus on it, he sighed again. Jin threw his pen down.
“What the fuck do you want?”
Yamapi grinned as he sat up quickly.
“I want to go shopping.”
“Eh?”
Yamapi huffed impatiently.
“I need to go shopping. "My clothes don’t fit me well”
Jin smirked.
“Obviously! You put on weight, pig!”
Yamapi pouted.
“JIIIIIIIIIIIIIIN!”
Jin laughed.
“So go shopping. I can’t follow you” The laughter disappeared from his eyes as he gestured to the paperwork that lay on his desk.
“Then I need a servant to accompany me.”
Jin nodded. He was puzzled by the odd request.
“Why not one of your own people?”
Yamapi shook his head like a child.
“I want someone different. So it has to be one from your household.”
Jin sighed.
“Fine. Take Junno!”
“No.”
“Koki, then.”
“No.”
Jin pinched the bridge of his nose.
“Then who-“
Just then a knock was heard on the door, and Kame came in bearing a tray of refreshments. Yamapi followed him with his eyes.
“I want someone who will come quietly and just carry my stuff with no comments.” He declared.
Jin shrugged.
“So just pick one of them who suits your needs!”
That was exactly what Yamapi needed to hear. He jumped up and grabbed Kame around his shoulder much to both Jin’s and Kame’s surprise.
“I choose him” Yamapi grinned happily.
Jin stared at his friend. He wondered why he felt frustrated by Yamapi all of a sudden. His glance shifted to his slave. The boy looked pale and still a little shaken up from yesterday’s events.
“Perhaps a change of scenery would do him good.”Jin mused.
“Fine. Kame?”
Kame started.
“S...Sir?”
“Follow him and help him with his shopping.”
“Yes master.”

Jin nodded a signal for Kame to leave. He tried his best to ignore his friend who was now humming some funny song about senoritas.
>>>> “Anou...Tomohisa san? This isn’t...”
Yamapi just grinned and nodded, his eyes never leaving the road.
“Nope, this is not the way to the shopping district.” He agreed cheerfully.
He snuck a sidelong glance at the figure sitting stiffly in the seat next to him.
“We are taking a small detour.”
Kame nodded quietly. He tried to keep his face expressionless as they passed the place that was so familiar to him - his hometown. He hoped he could catch a glimpse of his father or Maru. Suddenly he felt the car slowing to a stop.
Yamapi smiled warmly at the young man.
“Go on. This is your stop. Go see your father. I’ll come back and pick you up in the evening.”
Kame stared at him shock.
Yamapi sighed and rolled his eyes. He reached out to ruffle Kame’s hair.
“Go.” He repeated softly.
“But Akanishi -san ...”
“...doesn’t need to know. I’ll deal with him. Okay?”
Kame bit his lip, the temptation to run out to see his dad was overwhelming but...
Yamapi’s eyes widened when Kame shook his head and stayed put.
“No.”
“Kame...if this is about Jin -“
“No.” The boy’s tone was firmer. He looked with a small smile.
“Thank you so so much. But Akanishi san is my master. I can’t ... won’t do anything without his permission.”
“But.”
Yamapi sighed when Kame shook his head again.
“Are you sure?”
“Yes.” Came Kame soft reply.
Yamapi stared straight ahead. He had witnessed Kame and Maru’s conversation the night before. Having lost his father young, Pi was well aware of the pain of missing a loved one. That was why he had come up with this plan. It had played out so perfectly in his head except that he hadn’t factored in Kame’s stubborn nature and loyalty to Jin.
“Fine!” he huffed as he turned the car around.
“Then we’ll go shopping!”
He hoped to get the boy’s mind off his problems by at least distracting and spoiling the little slave for the day with a really good meal.
>>>>>
Jin paced his living room. He felt restless and somehow the house felt strange to him. Even though his servants were moving around, it felt...incomplete. He stared up at the clock and discovered it had moved only 5 minutes ago. Jin had watched Yamapi drive off with Kame two hours ago and since then found himself unable to concentrate on his work. He couldn’t understand why he felt frustrated and restless, why his thoughts were on his slave. All he was aware of was how annoyed he felt. He ran up to the window when he heard a honk of a car.
Confirming that it was indeed Yamapi, he quickly ran up to his room and pretended to be absorbed in his work.
“I’m back!”
Yamapi came in followed by Kame who came in carrying quite a number of bags.Jin simply grunted before grudgingly looking up. His eyes went immediately to Kame. Jin’s breadth caught in his throat.

The boy was dressed in a pair of jeans and a black wife beater. His hair had been cut too. Kame did not notice the look directed at him by Jin as he was arranging all the bags on the floor, but Yamapi did. He gave a sly smirk.

“So,” He flung a careless arm in Kame’s direction. “What do you think?”

Kame froze slightly, knowing the topic was now on him. But he didn’t dare turn around, frightened that Jin might be furious. However, a part of wanted to hear what Jin thought - whether his master approved of his new look. Deep down, he hoped Jin liked it. He could not understand why it would mean so much to him if Jin liked it.
Quietly, Kame bent down to pick up another bag and as he did, his top rode up slightly; allowing a flash of  tanned skin on his lower back to peep through.
Jin swallowed and blinked rapidly.
That was enough for Yamapi. He knew it! That swallow and rapid blinking only happened when Jin was crushing. Yamapi stifled a chuckle.
Now he knew why Jin was harsher on the boy, he didn’t want anyone to know! This was a delicate situation...but one Yamapi was sure he could handle and bring these two together. He just had to time it right.
“Jin? Yo!”
Jin started.
“What. Did. You. Do. To.him?
“I gave him a makeover. I am the Great Yamapi! I can’t have ragged looking servant running after me! My image would be ruined!”
Jin stared at his friend who rolled his eyes after a few seconds.
“Well? Don’t you think he looks nice?”
Jin turned back to Kame who now stood up feeling self conscious.
“Master, Tomohisa -san? I have finished arranging the bags. Is there anything else I can do?”
Yamapi shook his head.
“No, just stand there and let your master take a good look at you.”
Kame blushed further. Jin let his eyes roam over the boy. His hair had been dyed brown and styled to frame his slender face. The top showed off his toned shoulders and arms and the slim waist. The was no doubt in Jin’s mind that Kame’s abs were just as toned. His jeans were simple and hugged his hips. Kame was dressed just perfect in Jin’s eyes. The kind of guy Jin would have noticed in a club or a party or...anywhere.
Aware, that Yamapi was watching Jin shrugged his shoulder and turned back to his laptop.
“A little overdressed for a slave, don’t you think?” he commented nonchalantly.
He knew it was wrong. He saw from the corner of his eyes as Kame’s shoulders sagged slightly. And it twisted something inside him. But he needed to put Kame in his place. Jin felt that it was his duty to remind the boy of the circumstances under which he had come to the house.
Yampi could have smacked his head. But he didn’t. The small look of pain on Kame’s face didn’t go by him unnoticed. The boy bowed down.
“Shall I go get dinner sir?” he asked softly.
Jin grunted and waved him out. Kame blinked back a tear as he stepped out silently.
The stillness in the room was thick and deep. Yamapi sighed.
“Jin -“
“Not right now, Pi!” Jin interrupted his friend. “I’m busy.”
The former sighed again as he sat and rifled through his purchases.
The silence stayed in the room deep, dark and uncomfortable.
>>>>>>
The sound of the violin and the clinking of cutlery against china mingled with the laughter of the people in the restaurant. It created a happy ambience. But it had no effect on the group of business men who sat grimly in midst of it as they waited for their meal.
“Akanishi’s boy has to go!” One of them said.
The others muttered their assents.
“I though with his father out of the way, we could take over the business but he is far more meticulous than his old man .It is only a matter of time before he finds out the differences in the accounts and the amount of money that is unaccounted for...”
“I know. But it is also a matter of time before he will be voted out.”
“Kitagawa...”
“Don’t you remember the old saying?”
Kitagawa leaned back and smirked at the rest.
“The sins of the father will fall on the shoulders of the son.”
The others exchanged puzzled looks.
“You see before, Akanishi -san left so... abruptly, he may have made a few mistakes.”
The others were catching on now. One of them leaned forward.
“So, the mistakes have to be paid for by his son.”
Kitagawa smiled as he picked up his glass of wine.
“Of course! It must be paid in full. The cost is his stepping down from his position.”
The others smiled. Suddenly the ambience of the restaurant felt wonderful to them.
