I painted a portrait of some actor or other for our production of Little Women.
This is a detail of some stuff in the portrait.

These are some sketches (one sketch....another sketch) I found from one of my drawing classes in grad school. These were 10 minute timed sketches.

This is a CAD model of the show I am designing now called Uncommon Women. ( Read more... )

I think I've seen that "I hate fabric" sketch before. Or maybe I was just thinking of the conversation you and I had about shading fabric.

It's true. I hate shading fabric. The curtains in that portrait background were a bitch too. I fiddled with those things forever and finally just said "fuck it". They look fine from far away, but if you step up to the painting you can really see how nasty they are. Home dudes face is the same way. Definitely like an impresionist painting in that if you look close it doesn't look like anything.

I love that covered chair sketch though. That has a lot of good stuff packed in it. Like the bear head that my friend Mike stuck up there when we were all almost done. And the blueberry poptart that I was eating at the time (morning class) that dropped on the paper and smeared when I tried to wipe it off. That one's better than a photograph.
