Love never dies One doesn’t need mask to hide his or her emotions.
Gizel watched as the lady strolled through the crowds in the ball room. She stopped several times to reply the calls of the nobles and the senate members, who then greeted her ‘good afternoon’ and asked one or two diplomatic questions. Their beautiful wives and daughters politely commenting on how beautiful Sialeeds was that night, and continued to drag her into a what-they-thought a high class ladies talk.
He remembered the nights when he and Sialeeds shared their duties in royal balls and parties. Gizel would take care of the conversation with nobles and senate members, and Sialeeds should bear with the ladies talk. Either one of them, then, would make an excuse of leaving the conversations. That strategy had never failed in the past.
Since that eventful night, they had never come to a party in pair anymore. She had to handle all of the chatting by herself. He always watched from afar while she did all the work by herself.
He had learned how to restrain himself from taking a step by her and offering his arm.
It was hard at the beginning, but he eventually mastered it through years of practice.
He learned how to be patience while all the events in life were like a ride on a roller coaster. He was excited, cried when he first felt the thrill of joy, sadness, and disappointment. But he then knew that even rollercoaster had its own rail. All he had to do was pay attention to the road ahead, use the turn of events for his own goal, never to break down in emotions again.
He had restrained himself from doing many things he wanted to do, for the sake of waiting better chances. He held himself from showing excitement of manipulation.
When he finally got a hold of the arts of self-control, he realized that Sialeeds had already been an expert in it. Of course, he then thought, as expected from her.
The current Gizel watched as Sialeeds calmly excuse herself from the crowd.
Every time he saw her, he was reminded why he adored her so much. Sometimes, his heart would slip from the coldness, asking to no one that he would give everything he had right now just for a chance to be with her, like their old engagement days. Then he was aware that he was asking for it because it would never happen. If there were some possibilities where it could happen, Gizel would not just stand and begging to… God, he would be trying to make it come true.
He slightly bowed when he felt Sialeeds’ dropped her gaze on him, giving her a sardonic smile. Sialeeds returned his greetings with a brief, almost crude nod before trailing her ways to Queen Arshtat at the throne.
Because there was no way for him to return to those days, the only thing Gizel could do was only playing the impossible imaginations in his head, behind his cold mask.
