He should be dead. There wasn’t time to beam him off the Kelvin’s Bridge.
George Kirk looks up from the shuttle’s transporter pad. And smiles. Damned wunderkind.
“Explain yourself, Ensign.”
“There was no need for you to die, Sir.”
“Captain’s expected to go down,” George starts, only to be interrupted.
“Not on my watch, Sir.”
George moves past the 20-year-old, ruffling the mop of brown hair, heading to the shuttle’s pilot. “Find me Medical Shuttle 37.”
A moment later, George hears his newborn son’s cries again. He looks back at his savior. “Ensign Pike felt the need to rescue me.”
