Dreams

What is it with you people and your weird ass dreams? Can't you just have sex and kill things like everybody else!? I guess dreaming about eating or going to the bathroom, or even passing/failing tests would be more normal as well, but those are lame.

If you're gonna fuss, here's more info than you want zander_nao May 18 2006, 19:24:11 UTC
Although dreams have multiple purposes, the two primary ones are to facilitate the body's healing and regenerative processes and to transfer short term memories into long term memories.

The memories do not have to be associated with one another at all to be processed, so they can be completely unrelated. Additionally, the brain can store some short term memories up to a year before transfering them into long term storage. Over half of the elements in dreams come from the transferring of memories, any memories, of anything.

At this point I would conjecture that those who have weird dreams have had a far more versatile and worthwhile experience in life, gaining many different kinds of stimulus, than those who limit themselves to the same old thing. I would also say it is a matter of imagination to a degree as well.

Beyond that, I don't prefer to kill things unless they have gone too far.

So, hopefully that answers your question about what is with our weird ass dreams.
