She's very reclusive and does her absolute best to not ever interact with people and isolate herself from the world-outside of school, though even there she no longer really talks to people, and teachers and students alike have quickly learned to leave her alone. She's not completely mute, but she very rarely speaks, and it's usually only to a select few people-Ny is the only person she talks to regularly, and she will sometimes talk to his bandmates, or in front of them, and every once in a while talks to her parents, usually only when necessary.
When she does talk to Ny, it's usually with a thinly veiled layer of sarcasm, and to others she's very precise, saying only what needs to be said and never making small talk. She's passionate about her interests, and talking about them to Ny is the only time she ever really comes across as happy. She doesn't trust people, and always expects the worst from them. She has a hard time seeing the good in things, and struggles with depression and anxiety. As a child, she was very sensitive and easily hurt by criticism or anything negative, but now she's largely emotionally closed herself off and the only one that could still manage to hurt her is Ny-not that he ever does.
She does sometimes yearn to be a little more normal though, and despite not having an interest in sex or other people, she really gets into the BL manga she reads, and tries to imagine herself in a romantic and loving relationship like that, wishing she had someone who would treat her well like that, but believing no guy could truly be that good to her.

Earliest Memory: Emi and Ny have slept in separate rooms since they were big enough to not need cribs, but when she was four she woke up from a bad dream crying and scared, and somehow Ny seemed to sense this and snuck into her room, where he crawled into her bed and cuddled up with her. It made her feel really safe and cared for, especially since her parents had always been somewhat aloof to both of them, and the memory has stuck with her.

Brief Description: It's three stories and built in a square "circle" of sorts-the very center of the house is a large garden area, and the top floor has a balcony "cross" that goes over it, and the path on the ground lines up with the balcony, dividing it into four quadrants. There's also a large yard with a pool, and there's a small one-bedroom guest house with a covered front porch and large side deck.
B A C K G R O U N D
Summary:
The first few years of her life were largely unremarkable. She was shy and introverted when she started school in 1st grade, and she and Ny were in different classes and she didn't make any friends. Shortly after the start of second grade, Ny was riding in their dad's car with their dad when they got into a bad accident. Their dad came out okay, but Ny wasn't quite as lucky. He spent a lot of time in the hospital and his parents thought it would be easier if they sent Emi to live with Ryuoh's brother, since they were often at the hospital with Ny in the evening and couldn't always watch her. During her time there, her uncle sexually abused her, usually with objects or his fingers, but sometimes going all the way when he got drunk enough.
Ny took five or six months to really recover, and during one of the times when he was almost recovered and Emi came home to visit him, she told him that she didn't like the things their uncle did and that she wanted to come back home and live with him again. Ny didn't entirely understand at the time, but he was pretty sure their uncle touching his twin there wasn't good, and he told his parents. They were horrified, and immediately arranged for Emi to come back home, and Mr. Asashi used his influence to quietly get his brother prosecuted and thrown in jail.
However, they didn't want a scandal to get out, so it was kept completely out of the news, and they never even put Emi into any sort of therapy, afraid someone would eventually find out and the news would spread throughout the hospital. Emi had a hard time handling it, especially as she got older and started really understanding what had happened to her. She started really suffering from PTSD and having flashbacks and panic attacks, and she started really isolating herself. She'd already been shy and withdrawn and didn't have any friends, but now she was skipping a lot of school, and stopped talking almost entirely to anyone that wasn't Ny. She began self-harming in a way to cope with her emotions and the memories. Her parents ignored the signs, trying desperately to pretend everything was okay, but when she was thirteen she snuck into the hospital while her dad was working and stole some pills, and swallowed them when she got home. Ny was home, and found her pretty soon and called EMS, and she was rushed to the hospital and had her stomach pumped.
After that, her parents were forced to accept the truth, and they got her into therapy and onto meds, and she was able to deal with the trauma and truly confront what happened to her. It never made her less withdrawn though, and when she was sixteen she quit going to therapy, feeling she wasn't getting any more out of it. She sometimes gets termed a hikikomori, even though she doesn't fit the full definition of one.
