[Around Mayfield, morning Garviel is visiting friends. He stops by Abel's house, just to check and make sure his friend is in fact droned for good. When he finds Abel's things nowhere around, and the typically polite but distant Frenchman almost too chummy, he stops, walking away swiftly. The confirmation is a far more bitter thing than he ( Read more... )

[Garviel looks to Rin, and halts in his walk away from the house.]

Rin. [He says, his augmitters taking most of the emotion out of his voice.]

Watching over Sakura, then?

I see. [He doesn't question it, just looking away from droned Ciel.]

Would you like me to help you with that?

[ If the Astartes is capable of hearing the human heartbeat from any sort of distance, Garv would hear someone approaching. Though there's hardly a sound of footfalls on the soft grass or any other sound as the man approaches, padding silently to the star-gazing Garviel. All of a sudden there's a growl of a smoker's voice behind the armored Astartes. ]

Impressive.

[ Snake raps his knuckles softly on one of the armored shoulders. ]

This town has real interesting statues.

[Garviel's head turns, ad he just stares at Snake.]

I am not a statue, ser.

[ He takes a precautionary hop back the moment the head starts to turn. His body positions quickly into a readied stance. From there, he just gawks at the Astartes. Seemingly that the big guy didn't make a move and responded with a ser, Snake drops the stance. ]

No way. If you're a real person in that thing you're well over eight feet tall.

How astute of you to notice.

[Garviel makes no movement to stop him, just watching his movements.]

You are a soldier.

[A statement, not a question.]

[Unable to sleep, Miakis is out for a midnight stroll. Garviel's form is hard to miss, of course, so she approaches and takes a seat on the grass nearby.]

Hey, Garvi~ Can't sleep?

Not... as such. No more than usual. I only require 30 minutes of sleep per 24 hour period.

You're a knight, if Ken is correct.

I would imagine it would.

[A deep sigh can be heard over the line before he starts talking.]

You want to know why people did what they did? It's greed. Maybe some of it was well intentioned, but it still counts. Killing somebody is still a sin, regardless of your reasons. And in a town like this...

...I didn't do much. I'm a little ashamed of myself, actually. If I hadn't been such a coward, I might have been able to help some of them. But instead I locked myself in my house for days, griped by the fear of not knowing what was going to happen next.

I quite agree. Killing someone is a significant weight, and while I have most likely slain more people than anyone else in this town, I still carry it with my every time I resolve to fight. If I did not, I would soon become a monster.

There's nothing to be ashamed of. Not everyone is cut out to be a protector or a warrior. Sometimes all you can do is keep yourself alive.

[he writes audibly in the background, pencil scraping on paper.] Did you receive a letter?

...Yes. I won't lie, I may have entertained the idea for a moment. But then I realized I would only be falling directly into the town's hands. I'm, well, was a detective back home so... yeah, that became pretty obvious once I gave the letter a second glance over. ...What kind of twisted people would manipulate somebody's deepest fears and desires to make them do their own bidding? And on such a huge scale, too....

Only the most monstrous sort of people, I would imagine.

Don't regret thinking about the idea. That is a human response, and fairly justified. That being said, the important thing in this case is what you did not do.

Yeah. That letter was a bunch of bull. No threats or anything like that would ever make the King of Conquerors go against his morals. There is no honor in outright murder. Spilling innocent blood for one's own glory goes against everything I believe in. Some may have called me a tyrant in the past, but I'm no cold blooded killer.

So how did you react to it then, friend? [He pulls out his pencil, ready to write the story down.]

I refused to play their little game.

As a result... they... they got Waver. Someone did.

I was killed soon after I found that out...

How unfortunate. I am sorry. Is waver a friend of yours from home, then?
