Privos might fit the bill. I've never tried them, but I've heard good things.

I'm from NH, so the question of "not hideous" is really up to interpretation, but I've always loved Tevas. They last forever, they offer great support, and they're phenomenal for walking around in all day. Their only drawback is they absorb/create foot odour like nothing else, so occasionally you have to scrub them with bleach (baking soda makes it worse). But yes- highly recommended as an investment!
