I just saw a headline in the New York Times talking about an upcoming civil war in the Democratic Party because we can't seem to decide between Hillary and Barack. I've been seeing a lot of headlines like that lately and now I'm wondering if I'm crazy because I just don't get that sense from people. Nearly everyone I know would be fine either way ( Read more... )

Civil war is a tad dramatic, but a possibility. I'm for Barack, but will vote for McCain if Hillary is the nominee.

I think that's interesting. Just out of curiosity, what don't you like about Hillary? (For the record, I like Barack, too, but really I just want anybody who's not George W. Bush.)

Her personality, mostly, and what she means as part of the "Clinton legacy" I am very much opposed to.

I liked Bill Clinton, but I can definitely see the value of not setting up this dynastic thing that seems to be going on with the Bush/Clinton families. I don't like this idea of ruling families and rue the day when I'll have to decide whether to vote for Chelsea Clinton or Jenna Bush. Actually, I think I'll have moved to Canada by that point.... :-)

I think it's all bluster right now. The media rely too heavily on unscientific polls and ratings-grabbers.

That's what I was thinking, too. They seem to always need a storyline and will just leave out whatever information seems inconvenient to that story. Like they talk about this perceived "civil war" and then just randomly show the statistics saying that 84 percent of Democrats are happy with either candidate. And then I do my Scooby-Do head spin and go, "Huh?" Or rather, "Ruh?"

It's a shame to hear this division in the Democratic party called a "civil war" when really, it's impressing the heck out of me to hear people who agree with one another in general really hammer out issues. That's an engagement in politics that's been lacking for too long!

Yeah, me too. I just want to hear them actually talk issues and tell me how they're going to get us out of the messes we're in. This whole process has been very exciting and I like the fact that it didn't all get decided in Iowa and New Hampshire the way it always seems to. I like getting to hear people actually debate and express themselves. I feel like I'm getting to know these people rather than just having them forced upon me by a small number of voters meeting in dark rooms in the middle of January.

Oh, if anyone can shoot themselves in the foot, it's the Democrats. They just have such a big inferiority complex. I don't get it. The whole thing alternately makes me laugh or cry. Mostly there was crying in 2000. Lots and lots of crying. Pretty much every day since then too.

hmm, civil war isn't exactly the right phrase. What's a better term for what's happening right now... oh, yeah "Primary Election Campaign."
