I spent most of the movie hunched over in my seat, clutching
lyra_sena's arm or her hand, and then I intermittantly had to slap my hand over my mouth to keep from shrieking whenever Remus spoke. I enjoyed it far too much, and seeing Remus Lupin on a screen that size admittedly did really, really interesting things to my heart rate. Interesting, terrifying, wonderful things.
Of the wonderful.
Firstly, it was a beautiful film. From an artist's point of view, the colors in it were just amazing, totally gorgeous and completely enchanting. I also loved the noticeable change in the way that the scenes melted into one another, it was much more stylish and cinematic.
lyra_sena and I both agreed that the music was amazing.
Thewlis did a wonderful job. I loved the sense of elegance and humor he instilled in Remus, and the knowledgeable kindness he taught. I missed having more lessons in the movie, though I suppose they couldn't spend all of their time fawning over Remus--as that is my job in the universe. But his big band music during lessons, the way that he moved--casual but slightly strained like a sign of his past injuries catching up with him, the way he talked, the way he raked Harry over the coals about the map, it was all intoxicating and fabulous. That's not to say he was a perfect Remus, though most of my complaints were centered around the way that the movie framed the Remus and Harry scenes--they were supposed to be in his office, there was tea, and butterbeer, and impromptu Defense lessons! And Remus dropping his briefcase over Sirius!
Otherwise, wonderful, wonderful.
Oldman's Sirius was amazing. He's funny and fantastically unhinged. It was perfectly Sirius. Another part of Oldman's Sirius which I just adored, despite the campy nature of it--his clinging to Remus while Remus is transforming, believing with all his heart that Remus can fight the curse just through heart, through himself. Amazing, just utterly heartbreaking, and the way that he clings to Remus when they embrace in the shack, it's dear and desperate and fierce, wonderful and loving--and not at all platonic.
Overall, I think my favorite thing about this film was how much love there was in it, between the characters (the Trio all twined around one another was fabulous) and in the way that the wonderful musical score harmonized with the wonderful cinematography.
I enjoyed it very much.
Of the hilarious.
The appearance of ALL CAPS HARRY was hilarious, as predicted by myself on the way to the movie this evening.
Harry's little diatribe as he and Hermione are waching their past selves outside of the Whomping Willow. Harry's desperate, romance novel declaration that he and Sirius will live together, possibly in the country, where they can see the sky. I just about pissed myself laughing--and so did half of the audience, who was laughing right along with me.
Remus insulting Sirius even in the direst of situations. That's love.
Hermione smacking Harry's hand away from the Time Turner.
The confused, disoriented look on Boggart!Snape's face as Remus is walking over, turning on the gramaphone had me utterly rolling. I'm sure Rickman and Thewlis had so much fun during that scene--I bet they were cutting up more during the filming than the kids.
Ron's nightmare, and Harry's, "You do that, Ron!" Actually, any time that the boys were stupid together, including the dormitory bonding scene in the opening, the hilarious scene with Seamus and Neville when the Fat Lady was slashed to pieces.
Hermione's comment about her hair, because I'm shallow.
Of the What The Fuck.
The werewolf--or shall I say, weresomethingthatwasnotawolf. The wolf in JKRowling's book resembles a real wolf more than any monstrous creature--though the transformation was gruesome and realistic, but the end result was just awful.
Why the fucking fuck was "Moony" spelled wrong? It's really not that difficult.
Hermione's howling? Firstly, according to the movie werewolves only respond to the calls of their own (a factoid which was not in the book), Hermione is not a werewolf, unless there's some sort of undercurrent of plot which I just haven't realized to now.
Also.
There is going to be so much slash. Of every kind from this film.
Internet--brace yourself.
In conclusion: OMGREMUSURMYHEEEEROPIMPCANEPIMPCANEPIMPCANPIMPCANE.
