You just have to love the media. A very distorted version of this story is on CNN, the real facts can be found on the Lewiston Tribune's (an industrial city about 30 miles south of Moscow). CNN is obviously pushing a political agenda. None the less this is a rather unpleasant situation. It apears to me the gun man was trying to kill a the ( Read more... )

Joy, oh joy. I do hope details of the who and why become more apparent about this. From what I've read on this so far, it sounds like the wounded (and still alive) civilian in this case just came out of his/her house to see what the commotion was and got shot. Still, with the "quality" reporting that's been done so far, I wonder if they've got any clear idea on what happened. In any case, I do hope this event quickly leaves the national public eye, eh.

Agreed on the CNN coverage: There's sensationalist media if I've ever seen it. :P

Last night some moron with a cheap SKS took some pot-shots at the sheriff's office from the lawn of the church across the street. He then broke into the church and killed the caretaker. When SWAT finaly entered the building 6 hours later they found the man dead inside.

CNN claimed it to be a bloody rampage with a hail of automatic weapons fire. Umm, am I the only one around that knows WTF a SKS semi-auto rifle is?

Now its a "classic sniper ambush attack". No... a "classic sniper attack" consists of one shot, one kill (or not). Followed by an exfiltration into the night to avoid detection.

Hopefully the shooter will be forced to account for his actions in here-after, sense earthly justice was denied its due. To the brave sheep dog who went down protecting his flock, I say thank you for your sacrifice.

"A Part of America Died"

Somebody killed a policeman today,

and part of America died.

A piece of our country he swore to protect,

will be buried with him at his side.

The suspect that shot him will stand up in court,

with counsel demanding his rights.

While a young widowed mother must work for her kids,

and spend many long, lonely nights.

The beat that he walked was a battle field too,

just as if he'd gone off to war.

Though the flag of our nation won't fly at half mast,

to his name they will add a gold star.

Yes, somebody killed a policeman today,

in your town or mine.

While we slept in comfort behind our locked doors,

a cop put his life on the line.

Your words bring a chill to me. Aye, may the Sergeant of the night watch find his rest in Valhalla among our brothers.

I want the perp's name so that I may piss apon the place he is interred, and curse his name for defiling my free land.

May Sergent Newbill enjoy his rest in pantheon of hero's, in whose presence he should feel no shame for he has shown himself worthy.

The words of the poem or not mine, I merely pass them on as being appropriate. It is simply a poem we use at work to mourn the passing of a brother, and I expect to see it posted with Sgt. Newbill's EOW notice when I arrive for roll call in the morning.
