I got lucky again there!

And yeah, that's just crazy re: poutine. Apparently during WWI, sauerkraut was renamed liberty cabbage in the USA as well, for much the same reason. Goes to show that jingoism goes back a long way if nothing else.

interesting, I did not hear that about sauerkraut , It honestly to me sound like something that might have been from a line in a John Wayne movie, something to the degree of

soldier - "Sarge I don't want to be eatin this ere' sauerkraut"

sarge - "Call it liberty cabbage for all I care"

Just sounds like something I could here the Duke saying
