The post-surgery dog is tired and resting, but he's an eating, drinking and pooping machine again. We're supposed to wet his food (they get dry) before giving it to him. That's not a problem. The dog's hell to give pills to, though. He seems to think you're supposed to chew them (medicines are rather bitter things), so he tries to spit 'em out ( Read more... )

The dog/pill solution:
Make half of a peanut butter sandwich and hide the pill inside. We always had to do this for my mum's dog.

I'm pondering something like that at the moment now that we can give the dog (soft) food again.

I'm so sorry that this happened and I'm glad to see that he's getting better.

I got tired of trying to mask pills with my dogs, so I just open their mouths and push the pill in at the back of their throats. It may be a bit slimy, but it works well.

Gotten used to doing that as we've had to give pills when they weren't supposed to have any food. The first, you look at and she isn't happy, but she swallows 'em. The second, though... I swear he has a prehensile tongue and can reach back to the depths of his throat and pull the pill out. At least he doesn't have the skills TCR's sister's cat did... spit out the pill from it's stomach.
