This is such an exciting week for me. Today, I'll have a phone conference with my editor, Jeannette Larson, about the line edits for Hound Dog TrueI LOVE LINE EDITS
( Read more... )
It's so good to hear from you!! I've been thinking a lot about you lately & was going to email. Glad to hear things are going well. Have fun with those line edits.
I have a chapter in the revision book I'm writing for teachers that's about the power of "talk" -- those questions in the margins and the things that often grow out of them. Any chance you might have time in between line edits to drop me an email that tells that story about Crooked's title? It would fit beautifully into the book as an "author mentor" page for the chapter about talking it out. If not, I totally understand - but thought I'd check - I'd love to have your voice included. (And I'd also need a link to an author photo & book jacket if you do have time!)
I'd love to send this to you. I feel like such a dope for not sending my responses to the questionnaire. I did write them up, I just never sent them. THIS, however, I can do. How many words do you need?

I'm usually terrified of line edits at first, but when I get into the work I love them. They help me to make the story richer and deeper. The things an editor sees are often the little tings that I've missed.

Jeannette asks lots of seemingly small questions that really make me think. I love that. I'm not scared at the beginning - not exactly. But I always feel a little sheepish. A little dopey. Like I should have thought of these things myself.
Hey! So happy to see you blogging. And sooooo excited about Hound Dog True. And yes, I'm with you -- I LOVE times of intense editing. I could go on forever and let a book go, if I'm honest...
Love this! Thanks Linda. (Been a while since I've commented on here. Been crazy busy. My first pb will be available in ebook form on www.betherebedtimestories.com very soon. Brilliant concept. you should check it out!)

I was thinking about you, too. Proposing those SCBWI workshops always gets me thinking of my New England friends, I guess. How are you doing?

And on the title thing, just a paragraph or two is fine - thanks!
