This Design Observer article by Michael Beirut is really interesting to me in light of a discussion we had back here and here.  The article is about Beirut's early days as a designer and how the design firm for which he worked enforced very strict rules about the sorts of fonts, styles, and tools that might be employed in their designs.  Many young ( Read more... )

The Beirut article is fascinating. It rather goes along with my philosophy that it's okay to break the "rules" of language (grammar, etc.) as long as you know a) that you are doing so and b) why you are doing so. "Because you feel like it" is also never a good reason for why.

--31 days in September made me laugh, because it took me a few years to get the calendar rhyme straight.

I love that philosophy. It is hard to pair down all the choices, but I am working on that with my writing and my art.

Hi Linda,
Just finished Crooked Kind of Perfect on my Kindle-LOVED IT!!!! And I met Mona this afternoon too! and the question of the day is, "Who would name a kid Mona?!!?"
