A Quiet New Year's Celebration

Luke and Reid sat snuggled together on the sofa watching the Times Square celebration on television. Grandma Emma’s Christmas quilt was draped around them. Luke reached over to grab a chip from Reid’s bowl. He paused and smiled as he saw Reid’s eyes closed. The chip bowl rose and fell against his chest with each steady breath. Reid’s hands gripped the bowl tightly.

Reid was exhausted from the emergency surgeries he performed earlier today, and unfortunately he was on call tonight as well. Luke was surprised when Reid plopped on the sofa with him instead of getting into bed, but Reid insisted Luke wake him for the countdown.

With only a few minutes to go, Luke tried to pull the bowl away only to have Reid startle awake and snatch it back.

“Get your own chips,” Reid mumbled.

“There’s only a minute to go.”

Reid sat up and put the bowl on the table. He pulled Luke tightly against him. They silently held each other as the final countdown rang out.

10-9-8-7-6-5-4-3…Reid turned Luke’s head away

So lovely!!! Reid dozing off--I can picture that! And Reid kissing Luke at the end of 2011 and start of 2012--AWWWWWW!
