What happened next …
In that split second, Reid swore his heart almost stopped. He sat there, frozen in fear, his eyes still tight shut as his mind raced nineteen to the dozen. How could he have been so fucking careless? He was unpopular enough already in this crazy, one-horse town without being unmasked as a pervert. Shit - the Oakdale gossips would have an absolute field day with this. Katie would never let him hear the end of it. Maybe if he just sat still enough, whoever it was out there would just give up and go away.
But no matter how hard he tried to ignore it, the knocking sound continued, gradually growing more insistent as a familiar voice pushed its way uninvited and unwelcome, through the fog of his consciousness.
