"Triangle" - Chapter 4

Oct 04, 2010 08:55

This is an AU where Luke, Reid, and Noah are all about the same age and all live in New York City. Luke has no kidney problems in this fic - he drinks quite happily. Noah is not really the Noah of canon - he is how I wish he had been written. And thus, this story is my version of a true 'triangle.' Hope if you read it you enjoy it!

Luke/Reid, Reid/Noah (you've been warned BBs)

Chapter 1 / Chapter 2 / Chapter 3

Luke summoned his courage and called Reid the next morning.
“So, what happened? Why weren’t you at Axel’s last night?”
Reid paused. “I was at Axel’s last night.”
“That’s not what I heard.”
When Reid heard that Luke had been so misled by Mel he was seriously annoyed. “I can't believe she would have said that. I wonder why? I’m sure she knew I was working.”
“I don't know, maybe she hates me or else someone else there does and is giving me a bad name.”
"I doubt it." Reid shook his head to himself. “She must have just been having a bad night, or else she really forgot I was there. She can be kind of a head case sometimes.”
“Well, why didn’t you call me when you got home from work?”
“It was late, and…” Reid paused. “Listen, let's just forget it and move on.”
“OK,” Luke said a little cautiously. “You like Chinese?”

They met that night at a little Cantonese place not too far from Reid’s apartment that Luke said was good. Luke paid which Reid didn't really care for, but he let him.
“You know, I know you’re ‘wealthy’ as you said but you can't always be doing that. You'll have to make some sort of alteration in your lifestyle if you want to date a fairly poor student.”
Luke smiled. “Or, I could just feel lucky that I have the funds and inclination to help said poor student not feel quite so poor sometimes. C'mon whose it hurting?”
Reid didn't say anything in return.

They ended up standing in front of Reid's apartment again.
“Do you think I'll actually make it in there this time?” Luke joked as he stroked the hair behind Reid's ear gently.
“Well, I don't think you'll particularly like what you see.”
“Reid, if it has you included, I will like it, OK?”
Reid looked touched, and nodded his head.
When they got inside Reid asked Luke if he wanted anything to drink. Luke said just water, so that is what they had. They were sitting on the couch talking when Demetri emerged. He did a bit of a double take when he saw Luke.
“Hey, Demetri. Heading out?” Reid’s voice sounded rather firm.
“Yah, Reid. I'm win all my money back this time from the jackals.”
“Well, good luck with that!”
“Good luck with you too, Reid!” Demetri had a funny look on his face as he glanced over at Luke.
“What's his story?” Luke said after Demetri left.
“Oh he's a great guy - keeps to himself when he's here, makes himself scarce the rest of the time, is good about rent and so forth. Just like me, really.”
Luke nodded. “So, he'll be out for awhile then?” Luke's hand had made its way over to Reid's knee and was stroking it.
Reid had a flirtatious look on his face. “Yeah, he'll likely be out for hours. But,” he drew close to Luke and let the other man kiss him lightly, “that doesn't mean that you're going to be staying over or anything approaching that.”
Luke's face fell a little.
“Reid, don't you like me? I mean come on! I am seriously into you!”
Reid tried to look sympathetic.
“I like you too, Luke. But, well, I don't really care to be like all the other guys you've been 'really into' in the past.” Luke tried to cut him off but Reid kept going. “And truth be told, I'm not sure what I want right now. I sort of want to keep my options open.”
Luke could not believe that he was hearing this conversation. He had delivered it a hundred times but never been on the receiving end. He rubbed his eyes. “Wait a minute, are you saying that you want to be able to date other people as well as me?”
“Well, is that so wrong? Isn't that how you’ve always worked anyhow?”
It was but Luke didn't like hearing it. He wondered at how Reid could know this about him.
“So, are you dating someone else?”
Reid shook his head. “No, I am not going to go down that road. If I am or I am not, I really don't have to spell it out for you right now.”
Luke screwed his face up for a moment like he wanted to make a scene but then seemed to take a breath and swallow his frustration.
“Fine, fine, if you want to take it slow and just take your time finding out what a fabulous catch I am, we can do that!” He tried to look amused at his little joke but inside he was seriously irritated. Somehow Reid was making him feel completely outside his element, and he hated it.
Reid reached over and stroked Luke’s face lightly. “I hope you aren't mad. I mean, it's not like I'm out there screwing people left and right. I'm usually kind of a monk, truth be told.”
Luke stared at him. “So,” he finally ventured, “what made you look at me differently enough to want to go out?” If he didn't like half of what Reid was telling him he could at least change the subject to something he might enjoy.
“Well,” Reid said slowly, “despite the crowd you hang with, it seemed like you have a little bit more going on under the surface. And, you're really cute!”
“You think so?”
Reid leaned forward and kissed Luke.
“I do.”
Luke pulled back and mock sulked. “I wouldn't have known it by the way you acted when we met.”
“Hey, I'm a waiter! I've got to mask my emotions in that job, plus that's the way I am anyway I guess.”
“I guess,” Luke repeated. He looked at Reid for a few seconds and then pulled him into a long, hungry kiss. Luke moved further back along the length of the couch, using his arms to encourage Reid to get on top of him a little. Reid did move forward, still kissing Luke, and for a few moments Luke could feel the other man’s cock against his thigh. There was definite interest there. But Reid finally pulled back. “Listen, Luke, I’d better call it a night.”
Luke gave Reid a look which could best be described as akin to big brown puppy dog eyes. “Oh, yeah?”
“Yeah, I have a ton of studying to do.” Reid stood up. “So, do you want to call me or should I call you? I promise I'll keep my phone on me this time!” he joked.
Luke almost seemed to sigh as he stood up but didn’t put up any more of an argument. He let Reid walk him to the door, then leaned in and kissed him, but without the tongue down the throat.
Luke turned back as he climbed the stairs outside, Reid watching him go. “I’ll call you.”
