Never put much stock in enemies. If I ever made any, I can't say I'm aware of it. Now business is another thing. So I guess my greatest business adversary is Proudfoot Tractors, Inc. out a Fort Worth. They're a pretty big company an' growin', startin ta infringe on my sales. Yeah, well, they might be able ta look past the color of his skin if they can get cheaper maintenance, Jack. I know Gordon Beddingfield is buyin' from him now, an' that man used ta say some pretty awful things 'bout them Indians.

Well, Lureen, what interests me is the maintenance workers Proudfoot hired after you fired them. Did they ask for references? "Lazy and incompetant" is pretty strong language, and I wouldn't think guys like that would last long anywhere. Maybe they work better for Proudfoot? Maybe he has them supervised more closely? Maybe getting fired from Newsome was a wake-up call and they decided to pull their socks up? Maybe they started out well for Proudfoot, but will soon be going back to their old ways? I dunno, I just started wondering...

Nope, I gotta say I don't think old man Proudfoot or his HR person're checkin references too carefully, 'cause I sure didn't write any, though maybe they asked the bay manager. I gotta think Fred wouldn't'na written one either seein's how he was the one wanted them fired. I can't say it's good practice for Proudfoot, but I don't know for sure how they're workin' out for him. Don't much care.
