i agree with absolutely everything you said. someone much smarter than me just told me "at the end of the day, you're the only person that you can really know. you can try to get other people to understand you, but ultimately, your main responsibility should be to know yourself the best that you can". it sounds like hippie new-age shit, but it's true. i'm always so scared to let people see my metaphorical "embarrassing" drawer, but why is it so embarrassing? there's things in there that are very important to me & i've only let myself be embarrassed by it because i'm worried of what consequences it will have when other people judge me on it. which i'm only now starting to realize is so wrong. those flaws & fuck ups are part of who you are & hiding them is only denying a part of yourself. which is an unfair thing to have to do in order to meet someone else's expectations.

anyway, i shouldn't be talking because i haven't followed this advice myself lately. but hang in there, dude.

I sort of have the opposite problem. As someone who ALWAYS speaks up, right time or no - it can be a bomb sometimes. I try to wait for the right time but there really isn't ever one, is there? So I just bulldoze my way through and piss people off. ::shrug::

i have an "embarrassing drawer" too! it's chock full of my inability to deal with bureaucracies, my fear of driving, my hopes to return to musical theatre, my fat jeans, a couple of anxiety attacks....ew, i think i'll close it.
