Glad you liked it! And I know I'm awfully mean dangling Lee in there and taking him away. How about if I promise to make it up to everyone at some point with a Lee POV short that follows up on Alone?

Nice chapter. This was my favorite part:
Mothers were supposed to love you and hug you and teach you how to draw and show you how to replace fuses. Mothers weren’t supposed to hurt kids. And they sure as frak weren’t supposed to get into a viper and fly into a freak storm and never come back.

O, thanks! I loved writing that line. It survived all 4 (or maybe 5?) very different versions of this chapter because it seems to essential to who Petra has become.

It's a different kind of story, I know. And I'm really glad you're along for the ride. The way it works, Petra's isolation essential to her character arc, but I'm trying to work in more familiar faces where I can. Petra and Lee will have a very dramatic reunion, but if it happened here, at the beginning, there wouldn't be much of a plot!
