Have just watched Sweet Charity; hooray, Netflix. Shirley Maclaine is pretty winning, but otherwise the movie is throwaway, with the exception of the Bob Fosse numbers. I don't know much at all about Fosse, beyond that his name is a buzzword, but now I'm starting to get it: in this film at least, Fosse is intensely fabulous. It's really shocking ( Read more... )

So now that I've read most of the first book, I can say with relief that there are female characters throughout. Very few play major roles, but they're mentioned all over the place: Parvati Patil, Pansy Parkinson, Lavender Brown, &c. I assume they appear in the background in the films.
