Today's a holiday, right?

Maybe I'm once again betraying my age, but isn't today a holiday?

If so, why are all the stores open? I just called the supermarket. Not only are they open, they're open their regular hours.

Doesn't that strike anyone else as a bit strange? I swear, when I was a kid, nothing was open on the 4th of July. Or any other holiday. Now I think the only ( Read more... )

I totally remember it being the same back in the day. I'm not sure, but it might still be the same in small town Vermont, but I remeber the only places being open on the 4th being the gas station that's open 24 hours a day 365 days a year and all establishments that sell ice cream cones, creamies, etc.

I don't know; I remember grocery stores being open on the 4th, simply because people had to purchase their last-minute barbecue supplies.
