I have to get this off my chest because it is starting to upset me, and posting something on facebook would probably cause an uproar, and talking about it out loud would probably make me cry or something silly like that

”I mourn the loss of thousands of precious lives, but I will not rejoice in the death of one, not even an enemy. Returning hate for hate multiplies hate, adding deeper darkness to a night already devoid of stars. Darkness cannot drive out darkness: only LIGHT can do that. Hate cannot drive out hate: only LOVE can do that.” ~Martin Luther King, Jr.
I could not agree with you more. I feel very uncomfortable by this celebration. Enemy or not...it was the death of a man, not a football game. Cheering and celebrating seems a little unnecessary. I'm sure it brings some closure to those who lost loved ones in both the 9/11 attacks, the wars, and other terrorist attacks around the world, but I don't feel comfortable or right about dancing on the grave of a dead man. Even one who was misguided in his actions.
Yeah, I'm kind of ambivalent about it myself. I don't want to rejoice, but I think it's good that they succeeded because otherwise they would probably have hunted him til the day he died anyway and that's just a drain on resources and could cost American lives ... but I don't want to rejoice in killing, although if anyone deserved to die it was probably him. But you're right, it won't stop Al Qaeda and certainly won't end the killings, so it's definitely not a black and white situation.
I feel similarly. I think about how many hundreds of thousands of lives have been lost just to get to this point. I don't have a strong enough sense of vengeance to rejoice in this. All I see is that we achieved a goal, albeit at great cost, but I'm afraid it won't make much of a difference.
