When I volunteered for a cat rescue group, they always had fundraisers. They were never rich though, but they made due. Here are some of the things we did.

They had membership fees every year, not sure if you do that, but hundreds of people do sign up and at $25 bucks a pop it isn't bad.

We did a fashion show and raffle. We collected donated items and figured out nice gift baskets and got some major stores to donate a tv even. So, the costs were way down and it made a lot of money. It was also a great event. The only cost was the luncheon, which was $17 a head, and they charged $45 a head. That tooks hours of work though from 5 of us a few nights a week.

Art show - artisted donated 20% of the price of art for charity and they got the hall for free. $10 to register and no painting went for under $100. Yet, that was a little turn off for me so I left because I couldn't realy afford anything, but then they were selling.

Garage sales of all donated items. I heard that did very well.

well, the other shelters in the area are run by the state/municipality....some get $200,000 + a year for doing animal control...our towns freaked when we upped our contracts from 23,000 to 40,000!!!!

i wish i had an answer about the board memebers though, maybe they want to feel like they are doing good? maybe they thought it would be less work than it actually is? who knows...but soon a certain board memeber is going to be gone....
